Question - Front Strut 'clunk'

Remove this ad
Hello all..,

I've got a case of the proverbial "Front Strut Clunk" on a '95 STS-N*.

Can anyone tell me if they've experienced similar troubles with their suspension ?

I'm kinda thinking it's the 'upper strut bushing that's worn, but then again, it could be failed hydraulics as well.., don't know for sure.

I look forward to any/all remarks towards a fix on this.

Thanks in advance,
Dale

Re: WTF - Front Strut 'clunk'

I have the same problem. If I am not mistaken the checklist for determining what is causing this includes checking the Stabilizer bar(including the links) as well as bushings, strut mounts, as well as the struts themselves. I haven't had a chance to remedy my situation but if I find out what is causing this before you do I will give you a head's up.

Re: WTF - Front Strut 'clunk'

Maybe this is totally not related your issue but here goes:

I had a similar clunk, turned out to be the torque strut. (a dog bone shaped piece holding the engine to the frame, right between the radiator and the engine, <top front of engine bay>) The bushings get worn on these things or the bolt can loosen) and you get a clunk that can sound like its coming from the struts.....plus it follows road bumps just like suspension related problems.

Yup...

I had the end links replaced almost a year ago... The last time I had it in the shop I was told the strut mounts are now bad (70K miles) and the struts needed to be replaced as well...

My struts are pretty weak so I can see that... Got some Arnott Industry passive struts and some new GM mounts on order...

Re: WTF - Front Strut 'clunk'

Did the strut mounts and struts get rid of your noise and do the Arnott Industry passive struts work well? Thanks

Re: - Front Strut 'clunk'

one question, why isn't this in the suspension forum or seville, eldo forum where this has been covered numerous times?

I assume you talking to me. I did a search and it led me here. I'm a novice here but I'll go find the suspention section.
