I have a 2000 STS with goodyear 225/55R17 tires. I pulled one of the REAR tires after feeling vibration in the car, and discover that although the OUTSIDE still has 4/32 tread left, the INSIDE is worn down to see the white mesh inside the tire. Scary...I only ever checked the outside visually
The car has 86000 KM on it (53000 Miles), and I suspect these are original tires. I rotated the tires 6 months ago, so maybe the wear is from front wheel usage. But
My questions are:
1. What can cause wear on the INSIDE of the the tread? I thought hard driving (which I do) causes outside wear.
2. Can alignment cause this problem?
3. Should I get a 4 wheel alignment - or does this car not typically need one so early in its life (Mileage)
I had the same issue on my 2005 CTS, but I have 20 inch rims. The tire shop said that my car doesn't have any more room to adjust (alignment). He mention going to the dealer and purchasing a cam kit!!!! Not sure if he is correct or was being lazy. I do have the readings from the computer and they show red. I will take it to a different tire shop for a second opinion. Any ideas? Thanks.
