I have a squeak in the passenger side front suspension when going over bumps. REALLY annoying, sounds like an old matress. Weird thing is, it happens mostly when turning right (like highway off ramps). Still there when driving staight, but not as loud. Never when turning left.
I don't know if it has to do with less weight being transfered to the suspension when turning right, or if it's the angle of the wheel in the knuckle. Maybe a top plate?
I had this problem last year, and it went away during the winter, now it's come back with the warm weather. Or that could just be a coincedence.
My dealer is now replacing the lower control arms and, sometimes the Struts, about once a year. I have a 2005 1SG STS which has the Magnetic Ride Control suspension...front end squeaks, rattles, really terrible.
Curious. My late 2002 STS has MRC (F55) and the front end is tight and dead quiet, even when trying to rip it off on country road runs. Perhaps dealers and shops are looking at the wrong components ?? Squeaks and rattles could be loose strut or spring seats.
My Seville's always had some weird noses coming from the front suspension. The noise I have now to be honest sounds like a strut mount... it only makes noise over rough surfaces at low speeds. It's not really a clunk and it's not a squeek. I can't describe it, but it's not something that bothers me too bad. I'll get it fixed eventually.
ryannel, Do some research on the Intermediate Steering Shaft..............Our series of Seville had a run of odd noises and groans from the front end down under the driver's feet.
The ISS is a sliding universal joint between the end of the steering column and the rack. The slider lube dries out and the thing creaks and groans at stops and in some accelerating turns. GM had a lube fix but it never really worked, so you get a re-design shaft from a GM source.
Already had that replaced back in October '08. I've heard the clunk in an '03 Seville STS before and not the same kind. This is more of a rattle that sounds like it's coming from the front suspension. However, I did think it could be that plastic ring that goes over the shaft. The old green units made noises, but the replacement orange didn't. This noise appeared about 3-4 months ago, but it doesn't bother me enough to worry about it.
I have a 2000 STS and have a noise coming from the front end. The nosie is hard to describe but to me sounds like something is loose. Hear it more at low speeds going over small bumps (expansion joints, etc). Have had the care checked out by 2 different places and neither could find anything wrong. I think it could be coming from the top of the struts or something in the steering. Drives me nuts, tech at the Cad Dealer saids there is nothing he can see that makes it unsafe to drive. Any ideas on what it might be? I describe the noise as a hollow sounding rattle.
Did anyone figure this out my 2006 sts 1sg awd v8 has the same probelm i have f55 mag dampering ride control i tried doing a alc trim rest on my tech 2
but no luck . It is a sound like there is alot of stress on a metal part . So far gm has replaced the upper control arm
and stabilizer link bar bushings .
Note: When it is cold it is present and louder the colder it is
when braking and hitting slight bumps it is 10 times more likely to make the noise
present while sudden slight uphill or downhill driving " speed bumps " / praking lots
on my old cts i had a similar problem and there was a tsb for the control arms with this parts kit with plastic inserts
my sts does have this parts kit for it .
Does anyone know what it could be it is driving me crazy
