Can *Service Stability System* effect gas mileage?

When I bought my 2002 STS a year ago, the last owner said that "you can set the cruise control, and get 26 MPG on the highway"; and for the first month or so I was getting comparable. After that, the cars average was about 18.8 to 19.5 (I understand how the drivers use of the gas pedal may destroy MPG, but I live with the instant gas mileage on to see what the car does at all times to adjust driving habits accordingly and I do A LOT of highway driving).

After 3 months I gave the car complete tune up (used Bosch Platinum plugs and threw them out after 3 weeks because they caused a 2 MPG loss!)

Today the "Service Stability System" (code C1214 and C1248) banner showed up on my dash, along with a host of other lights, and my car is getting 6 to 8 MPG better. and the "to the floor" response has greatly improved

Could something have been screwing it up, I mean the code is only a relay, though I don't know where exactly yet...

Not sure on what relationship the Stability System should have with mileage.....hadn't heard that one before. Might want to look around in the Seville section though, with service codes and mileage issues you'll probably have better luck in there instead of here.

The Stability System can be alerted by: Struts, Tires, Wheels, and a Steering Sensor. Of course if you tires are under inflated or out of round there is more rolling resistance and your gas mileage will decrease. My STS will get about 25.6 MPG on the highway without the Cruise Control provided the roadway is level.
