A few weeks ago I noticed a rattle noise on the right front end when driving over bumps or cracks on the road.
In the beginning it was not loud at all, actually I think this situation is has been going on for more than few weeks ‘cuz I couldn’t hear anything from the drivers side. Yesterday I believe I figured out what the cause of that noise is.
There is a play in the CV joint that I can hear when I “shake” the steering wheel. I can also feel the gap by pushing/pulling in and out in the middle part of it (sorry, I don’t know the part names)
Is it possible that a nut or something is loose and makes the CV joint overextend, or it’s just time for a new one?
Do I have to change the whole part or only the joint that’s loose? How difficult of a job is this? Do I need special tools to take the joint out.
Sorry for so many questions. I’ve taken out CV joints before but only on old European cars.
