Question 2000 SLS "Change Brake Pads" light reset?

Remove this ad
I just did brakes for a freind and the "Change Brake Pads" light did not go out. I am unsure what resets this or is it the fact that sensor is now not rubbing on the rotor.... There was some damage to the sensors... Do they need to be replaced...

Thanks
Rod

Replace the damaged sensors; try part #18026765.

Or you can jumper around the damaged sensors (which will disable the early warning feature for those wheels).

Happy to help with repairs that I 'know' about first hand.

Re: 2000 SLS "Change Brake Pads" light reset?

Hello,
I have a 2000 SLS with the change brake pads message displayed as well. The front pads were worn so I had the rotors turned and replaced the pads and the sensors because the clips that hold them in the pads were broken. I also replaced one of the rear sensors because it looked a bit thinner than the rest but to no avail. The message still comes up even after "clearing all codes" several times. Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated! 03 Cummins

Your pad wear sensor circuit is "open" somewhere. Based on what you say above, I would suspect one of the sensor-to-chassis-harness connectors is not seated properly or is damaged somehow.

Or one of your pad wear sensors is defective. The sensor should show continuity at the connector end of the sensor wire harness.

Congratulations on your search skills. You found a five+ year old thread!!

Re: 2000 SLS "Change Brake Pads" light reset?

I bypassed mine. I find the sensors somewhat pointless for the mechanically inclined. Maybe for someone who pays to have all work done on their cars, but the sensors are $100 for all 4 of the off-brand and I cant imagine what they are for the name brand. Even if I dont catch the pads rubbing the rotors right away I can get them turned for cheaper than $100.....
