Top pull down causing battery drain. Help!

My new battery of 2 weeks has been drained down to zero. I have traced this down to the top pull down as the culprit. The question is, now what do I do?

I have read somewhere in these posts some confusing (to me) reports such as splicing ground wires together, manual switching, the hook completing the ground, etc.

I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

PS .. this is an 87 model.

When this happens, it means the motor is not strong enough to pull the top down and trigger the reversing switch that shuts off the motor. Sometimes this is simply because the motor is too weak. Other times, the gear case cracks and stretches, and then the motor gets fried from being left under power. The circuit breaker will trip and reset until your battery goes dead. GM has discontinued this part. We have rebuilt units in stock.
