I am the latter. 100 octane will make your car run faster, just in case you didn't know.

Re: Post Count Gone For Good?

Hey Sal, now that post count is gone, you should probably change the standard user title for people over 10000 posts.

As of this writing your postcount is
Total Posts1,470
Posts Per Day: 1.10

Now if you resurrect a zombie thread, and I look at your postcount, what does that tell me about the person who brought the thread back to the top ?

They were not a noob ? They're still a noob ? They like kicking up zombie threads ? They eat chicken ?

For some reason I can not discern any reason why they did this by looking at their postcount, time in the forum, avatar they use currently, or where they're from. I'm left with reading their posts and hopefully finding out the answer there.

Re: Post Count Gone For Good?

Indeed. The noobs get the hammer for resurrecting old threads, or they get the hammer for not searching and posting a new thread.

Poor noobs. They get the hammer no matter what.

Re: Post Count Gone For Good?

Sometimes, for continuity and information, reviving an older thread is good. BUT, to ask a simple "Did you fix it? " in a thread dead for 3 years is a bit much.

That might beg the question "Why not delete threads more than XXXX months old ?" ....Because there is so much useful information buried in here. You just have to set back and search.

Re: Post Count Gone For Good?

But would it be found in a search if it was deleted? Maybe an auto lock after so many months?

Re: Post Count Gone For Good?

I agree; to bump an old thread to respond to one of the posts in that thread is ridiculous. But when people search, and start looking at some of the threads in the results, they don't realize that a thread on the second page of their results could be three years old. It just bugs me that when people say "use the search" and someone does, and then bumps and old thread, they start bitching about it. I mean, this is an internet forum, not a college thesis. No one is going to pay attention to every little detail. I'll be damned if I am.

But when someone brings up an old thread to say something like "I found this thread and I have the same problem but....etc etc" I think that is completely legitimate. And like Ranger said, it's why we keep all the old threads.

I have been to forums where the threads only go back a few months, and I know I saw Join Dates of users way older than that. So some forums must only save threads (or at least only display them) back to a certain point.
