I did like the post count though which is why it would be good to have just supporting members be able to view it. I use it to see if someone was an active member or a new comer and adjust my responses to their questions accordingly. I will explain myself in greater detail to newer people whom may not be able to easily comprehend what I am talking about while I expect more active members to know about common problems such as HG issues. I never went by the join date though because some people may have joined a few years back but only have 2 or 3 posts. | This is why we need the post count, it lets me know if somebody is a newb. |

Anything over 200 counts as no longer being a newb in my book. You will at least have an understanding of what engines the cars came with and what years they updated the body styles in.

I never understood why these forums have a post count anyway. It never made any sense to me. All it does is put a rift between the noobs and the "vets".
I have said it before, I will say it again. You want to cut down on spam? Give each forum (or at least each forum section) a shout box.

Dont know if it matters or not but when I research, I'd take the advice of a higher post member than low. Sites too slow and bogged down to waste time clicking on the member profile to see amount of posts posted. I'd like to see it back as well. God Bless,Joe |

This would discourage random people from signing up to ask one question and then leaving, never to visit Cadillac Forums again. It would also discourage post whores and vets from posting a "Yeah" or "Cool" response.
However this plays out, I just want to say I really like and appreciate this site. I wouldn't be giving money for it otherwise! |

So your telling me a guy who builds LS engines and has his own shop with a post count of 40 is somehow dumber than a douche spamming his way up to a 1000.... it just doesnt make sense to research by post count thats just dumb
Keep it or trash it, its a matter of personal opinion |

The fact that someone is big enough of a tool to spam a site to boost their post count is hilarious. Maybe they should instead get up and vacuum their momma's attic or something...?
And for the record, I vote for putting the count back so we can confirm that the noobs are always the ones who resurrect moldy dead threads.

Honestly, who cares either way? Having been here since January 05 (which I know pales in comparison to some members who have been here since the beginning), I know who's full of crap and whose opinion I'd trust $1000 on. Any newbie quickly figures out the same thing. You buy a 96 Deville, and in a few minutes of reading threads in the FWD forums, you pretty much figure out Ranger knows his stuff. Post counts aren't needed. Neither are reputation points.

I've only been here since December, only have probably 50 posts or so, and I feel like already I can clearly tell which members know what they're talking about and which ones just love the fact that they're giving advice, even if it's bad. Part of that has to do with how constructive a person's tone is. If someone is demeaning, that person usually end up saying something that even a mere 50 poster can tell doesn't make a hell of a lot of sense. If someone truly knows what he/she is talking about, that person is typically constructive. I am sure exceptions apply.
That said, I have no problem with a post count displaying that I only have 50 posts compared to so-and-so's thousands, because as much as I'd like to be helpful in the small niche areas I feel I have some knowledge about, it will not really hurt me in any way if someone chooses not to trust my opinion. 1) My life does not change if I'm not as trusted as Member X, 2) I could be wrong at times anyways, and 3) I know I'm still learning about more of the technical stuff and know who are the members who have been helpful and who are the idiots who give away their idiocy with their over-the-top arrogance.
Finally, I know more about Cadillacs than I did in December, and that's in large part thanks to the members on this forum who give constructive advice. What a resource this is, and not just that...it's fun too! | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
