Most automotive sites as busy as this one get support from these aftermarket vendors. Since we have only a few, we need to make up for it with network advertisements - which slow down page loading. It's a necessary evil. Those viewers who do not support the site (there are a great many thousands of them online all day long) have to deal with the slower-loading pages...
Again.. The reason it's not slow for guests at places like www.corvetteforum.com or www.camaroz28.com is because the aftermarket is paying for their site, plus some (er, lots)...
The Corvette Forum supporting vendor page: http://corvetteforum.com/vendor/vendors.php
The Camaro Z28 Forum suporting vendor page: http://www.camaroz28.com/links/browselinks.php?c=2
They both also offer Supporting Member programs like we do.. Corvette Forum is owned by a very large corporation...

I find this site very useful, but on both of my laptops it seems to hang up with the opening black bar at the top of each page and then slowly loads. Are there any settings or tips to help speed up the site, I can't get the info quick enough! Thanks... |

One way to remove all but the static ads is to become a supporting member. Page loads go a whole lot faster..........
BTW, go up to User CP and update your personal info with your car, model, year. It makes diagnosis much easier if everyone knows what car they're looking at........

Is there some kind of new ad generator running or something? It's really tedious.
Firefox doesn't seem to be quite as bad...

At the bottom of your browser in your task bar, do you see it trying to load a specific domain? That might help to tell me what the holdup is. |

It went on for at least 90 seconds to 2 mins. Then some kind of maroon popup came up that didn't have anything in it, then it locked up and I had to end IE. |

I suspect that might be the issue.. This stuff is getting very tricky these days. It's hard to tell whether or not there's a temporary issue that shouldn't be there on our end - or on the user end..
In any event, I really do want to lose these network ads. I have to figure out a way to reach out to a larger audience and obtain a much bigger membership. I've yet to ever run into a person on the street who's heard of this place. That tells me there's a ton of people out there we can get as signups. With enough members and activity here, maybe we'll attract enough vendors to simply have all these network ads removed... |

One of the common denominators seems to be a LONG display of either "bid.openx.net" or ".... . openx.net" in the lower pageload bar. This PITA occurs in either IE 7 or Firefox. |

I can't be sure, but I believe my Norton/Symantec 2009 AV is scanning addresses during the pageload sequence. I have received a large number of "Intrusion Attempt" entries in the Norton History, but no URL or address shows in the description. Curiously, the slowest page(s) to load are those, and the Post Reply, from this thread !!
EDIT: FYI, this ^^ reply took 21 seconds to upload. |

I think there's a "redirect" program trying to run, but my Norton is set to block attempts to change my home or requested page/URL.
The two offenders appear to be "c1.openx.net" and "bid.openx.net".......those are the two addresses which show up and remain for 8 -17 seconds in the lower left Firefox taskbar.
I'll edit this when I time the upload.......
OK.....17 seconds of "bid.openx..........." EDIT at 1711.....The offender is the banner ads in the upper right of the main pages.......Strutmasters, etc., whoever is using the "......openx......address. EDIT at 1733......curiously, the Bondurant banner ad doesn't trigger the "openx......" problem, but the rest do......... |
