I'm in the market for a 06-07 V and was wondering how the bugs got worked out in these years and if people are still having problems with the diff, reverse, engine mounts, wheel hop, etc.
For example, last weekend I test drove a 05 w/ 16k on the odo. This was at a dealer where they've had the car for 10 days as a trade in. The car had excessive rear diff whine and shuddered when the ignition was turned to off. While for the money, 37500 w/ 100k warr it was a good deal on paper. The problems I've read about wouldn't make me want to buy a 04 / 05 since the 06s have revised diffs, shifters, the LS2 and a couple of other upgrades.
So far i've driven a 2003 M5, a 2003 S-Type R, and plan on playing with a SRT8 300C this week. I'm sold on the caddy for the styling and the LS2 - I plan on lite modding. The M5 and the R aren't mod friendly and are expensive to fix, I really wasn't too impressed with the M5.
07 with 5300 miles
Wheel hop, Yes, had the cadillac plastic bushing put in rear, somewhat better really firmed the ride up, I like it. Now have Kars stage3 ordered see if that is evan better.
Just had new pinion seal put in, seems to have stoped the drip, Cadillac says new and improved.
Fun car, soon as lindsey has bushings getting UUC shifter, then going back to speed shop for headers and few other goodies.
s-type isn't mod friendly??? you can get 50horse out of a damn pully on that sucker...I like the Jag, looks good, my buddy almost got one...just to much $$$...lol and the caddy is just as expensive to fix as the jag....but, the jag is only auto...so do you wanna shift? or cruise?
I have an 06 with ~7500 miles. I've had no wheel hop which it sounds like is due to having the RSAs rather than the F1s. The diff leaks like crazy but with minimal whine. Other than that, the car has been perfect.
42k on my '04. It has all the typical quirks but no problems requiring service. It wheel hops just looking at it. Kars III in the garage going on as soon as I can get the '67 Stang off the lift.
Getting 50 horse to the wheels with just a pully swap really isn't realistic on top of which over spinning that blower beyond efficiency. Even if you were to get that power out of it where do you go from there? Ported/Polished heads, exhaust, etc? Too much trouble for me, been there done that with other cars, its prohibitavily expensive. There's a company in the UK called Arden that does head cam and block work punches the motor out to 4.5 liters and tweaks the pully - great gains but it probably isn't worth it financially.
I'm hoping that the 08 has the diff problems nailed down and GM will recall or start replacing all the diffs with a good unit.
I have an '07 and *thought* I was having a wheel hop problem but it may actually be the TC kicking in agressively. With TC off but Stabilitrak in full on mode, I am having neither wheel hop nor traction problems in moderate driving.
04' with 18K and no big probs, lots of little ones. Same diff and its not leaking. Trans getting a little rough, but hey... this is definitely a man's car....gotta be tough. Yes, the rear wheels do their own version of "RiverDance" everytime I get on it hard (ehm...wheel hop).
