my friend had a 96 TC and it was nice but not nearly as nice as my brothers 96 Fleetwood Brougham,

the brougham had more power, was more comfortable and looked alot better.

plus its a cadillac, nobody says "the lincoln of..."

They were out of a Fleetwood Brougham. I remember paying specific attention to them. They had the vertical pleats on the seatback, not the horizontal ones that the Fleetwoods had.

I mean which one is still being currently sold. The Fleetwood was discontinued in 1996 and the TC is still being sold a decade later.

That was GM's mistake. Ford's killing off the Town Car in '09.

Yeah. We've been talking about that on another board. If they do kill it off then that would be the end of the traditional luxury sedan in the US I hope they don't do it because they will only be hurting themselves because they sell a shit load of them for fleet purposes.

Everything's changed. GM did kill off their luxobarges, but Ford did so too, in a way. People went away from buying large sedans. Ford's Town Car sales have declined every year since 1996. Lincoln kills off the Continental and brings in the LS and focuses on luxury SUVs.

To add to all this, the Town Car was shrunk down a bit in 1998 and they sat idly by and watched custom coach builders such as Royale build special "L" versions at a $6-8K markup. And they flew out the doors. It wasn't until they offered their own did Lincoln get back a little of that luxobarge tradition, albeit mostly for the livery fleet.

As for after '09, there is 2 options as I see it for we the livery field to go. Either a stretched 300 from Chrysler or the DTS. I think the DTS is a very fine driver's car, if you can get past the FWD. The dash layout is very tasteful and very ergonomic. The interior is comfortable. And to think, they actually offer a DVD navigation system to livery models! The 300 would be a blast to drive around but I sense Daimler Chrysler is not going to get it right. The interior is cheap and they must add rear controls. Plus I worry what the ride will be like. Lincoln really nailed it on the post-2003 TC Ls.
