    Re: Deville 94 4.9 V8 - no start

Yeah it was the battery but now I think my starter went.

I'll upload the sound recording I made of the sound it makes when the car goes to start and doesn't shortly.

I'm really depressed I was suppose to see my girl today sigh.

    ----------

It makes a whining sound when I go to start it.

    ----------

How much should the starter or the starter solenoid cost to replace?

Whining sound? Do you mean a loud screeching sound?

Starter is around $50 - $100. Add markup and labor.

Yes just like a screeching sound like a grinding noise almost.

I have to figure out a way to upload the link from my phone of the voice recording on here.

    ----------

Is it easy to fix the starter by one's self or should I take it to a garage?

It shouldn't be too hard to do yourself. You can see it from under the hood but easier to get to from underneath.

Does that sound clip sound like the starter?

It sounds pretty normal to me. I hear a pretty smooth turning over but no start up. Does the car start now?

I couldn't make much out of that sound clip. I certainly did not hear any screeching (kind of like when you try to start a car that is already running, if you know what that sounds like).

The girl at O'reilly auto parts who knows a lot of about cars was on the phone when I went to start my vehicle she said it sounds like a bad starter.

    It still won't run.

It seems like it is always something with my car. Every payday my car takes me to the bank and cashes all my money.

The engine's turning over just fine. It's not the starter.

    First - Check for codes
    Then
check every fuse in the vehicle.
    Check for spark
Listen for the fuel pump when you turn the key on. It should do a couple of second prime.
Break out the fuel pressure gauge (sometimes you can get a weak pump).
open the filter box and see if it can get air.

I hope it's not the fuel pump I've already changed out all the fuel injectors which is a pain for no reason along with new spark plugs rotor cap and wire including a new fuel pump and sender.

I refuse to pay for another fuel pump or sender unit that almost killed me money wise.

    Re: Deville 94 4.9 V8 - no start

This thread is beginning to get confusing (like so many others).

    Lets go back to basics.

    Does the engine crank?
If no, battery, cables, connections, starter.
If yes, check for spark at the plugs. Check your fuel pressure (should be 40-50 psi).
