Re: 1999 Deville Trunk Lid Opening

Thanks Rodnok. All the different suggestions got me thinking beyond the typical and consider everything electrical on the car - not just what could be related to the trunk lid operation. I decided to pull all the fuses in the trunk and replace them one at a time and check if the trunk popped after each one. A fuse for lights caused the trunk to pop open. I started to check every light on the car and realized that the license plate lamp and the right park lights were not working. I removed these bulbs and they were all blown. I'm am not sure if this is the answer yet, but it looks promising.

Well, it worked for a few hours and now the trunk popping on its own is back. I guess that I have more work to do. I'll post when I find the answer. It has almost become a quest at this point.

    ----------
I reached through an open window and pulled on the headlights - the trunk popped open. I accidentally left the lights on while looking for a problem and drained the battery. I recharged the battery and the car is running fine. I now have lots of codes but I believe that most of them are related to the battery being drained. I did get one code that referenced a short to ground for the reverse lamp relay (code B2477) I also got a high beam fault (code B473) I have cleared the codes and am waiting to check them again. I'm going to keep working on this problem. Now I think that it may be related to the lights somehow.

I would tame a look at the reverse relay and that high beam relay, very well could be part of the problem.

I'm having the same trunk opening by itself issue, how did you fix your problem?

What caused your trunk to open by itself?
