Re: Helpon the road at garage need advice ASAP!

    So far
    1 main radiator $347
    1 transmission inter cooler W/ lines $100
2 Belts, main belt and alternator belt (in transit) $105
    1 box 8x spark plugs(in transit) $46
    1 power steering hose $122
1 diagnostic scanner for Cadillac (in transit) $80
    2 A/C seals (in transit) $17
All prices include shipping, total $817
Labor will be about $520 making a grand total of $1337, not bad considering if I did this in Norway I would have paid that just for the radiator and 1 alternator belt. Having said that if the quality was better I would not have to buy over half these parts. Major parts from Rockauto, scanner, plugs and seals from Ebay

Oh I forgot the 660 euro (865 dollars) I had to spend the first day I got the car to replace the front wheel bearings, so I have had the car less then a year and will spend a grand total of 2202 dollars to keep it drivable, this is not including replacing the rotors and pads, brake lines(my choice to braided) with EBC, yes I could of used the crap (inner faced) condition rusted rotors and nearly worn out pads, probably could have used the old belts, what concerns me now is that pesty MIL light going off/on as it pleases, if the scanner works and finds a internal engine problem, there is no doubt this lemon(or just needs a refurbish) is in for a trade. Next week is surgery for it and the labor could be higher or lower.

To be fair after replacing the front bearings, I did drive to southern Spain from Holland and back to Norway and now to Belgium (and still no oil needed) without a actual breakdown, I only wanted to replace 2 air condenser o-rings when I saw all the oil cooler line rust and sagging radiator, apart from all that driving it always stayed in the garage except for the weekend 1 hr drive to keep the motor up. Luckily I have a friendly mechanic in Belgium, no way could I afford the cost in Norway!

It sounds like the car was not in great shape when you took ownership.

Well it was a one owner car, low miles and looked great in an out. Its when you lift the car an remove plastic an look in corners do you see the low quality. I can only imagine this guy drove in salt water or lived in a part of holland they used salt in winter. He must of seen the underside and decided it was time to dump. While the repairs are ongoing I am going to modify the under splash in the shield so water does not stay in the well of the shield where the tubing sits. When ever washing or rain comes in through the front grill, water accumulates an has no where to go. Engine heat is not enough to evaporate the water from the foam.(mainly if you live in a wet climate) The tubes just sit in a sponge bath. I will take pics an post

Maybe the language here is lost in translation, but there is a big difference between a low quality vehicle and a poorly treated and abused one. You have called your truck low quality and a lemon, both of which I disagree with. There is also a difference between a "lemon" and a vehicle that has not been properly maintained and abused. It sounds like your truck has led a very difficult life. Driving repeatedly through salt water - iron rusts and other metals corrode. It's sad but a fact of life. Maybe like I said language has misconstrued what you mean, but it doesn't sound like your truck is a lemon, nor, if it has been constructed using the same materials mine has been, low quality.

The undercarrage is fine, the frame and everything else, its the metal they used to make the
Brake lines and oil cooler lines. I have to replace all the metal lines

I am just in a phase now with complaints sorry. Probably after these repairs I will be more pro active. (If everything works out) ) hopefully its just cosmetic underneath and when replaced everything will be fine.

Well shes finished, flying down to look at it Monday, labour actually came out 50 dollars less(dinner and wine!), will post a pic of the under belly shield and show where the water settles and rusts the trans cooler line and power steering cooling lines bracket. Will also post a pic after modifying the shield.
Alternator was bench tested and fully functions (TG). Battery will get a trickle charge over the weekend and then test for draw for 1 hr. They did not use the scan tool so I cannot say if it works or not now, but I wil try it Monday.
Incidently I took the list above to GM in Norway, estimated labour cost 4500 dollars not including parts

you can see where the tubes wee sitting on the foam, the area of the foam that had the rust is removed so water will no longer soak the tubes and braket

Section of rusted brake lines to replace

Rusted oil cooler and sagged radiator

Found myself stuck again, this time the new Goodridge hose RR DR side busted (Goodridge is investigating), road side assistance paid all towing (picked me up within 2 hrs),3 days hotel 4 star, meals, taxi to an from service shop. 1 day part delivery (they drove to pick up the part, 1 hr drive each way to Hamburg, for some unknown reason the shop only charged me 150 euro, 194 dollars for parts and labor. got lucky this time, right place, should not be too much longer before i post here again. As I said before, IŽll live with the external problems but any internal or drive line, she·ll get shot like a crippled horse!
