New member, first time cadillac owner ('73 CDV), a few questions

I am exited as a little kid with my new toy! Well, I'll be picking it up tomorrow...

I was told it needs carburetor work, so rather than fooling around with rebuilding an old carb, I just went out and bought an Edelbrock 1406. I am correct in understanding that this will be a bolt on solution, with the jetting in the ball park for an unmodified engine ? (Flowmasters as only change from stock)

The only other thing I would be interested in modifying in would be the distributor. Would the accel 59120 be a drop-in replacement? Any suggestions for other distributors? At which RPM should this car reach full advance?

And, Does anyone have a wiper motor lying around?

Thanks for your input.

edit: Ok I see I need and adapter plate for the carb. No biggie. Still, does anyone have any experience with out of the box jetting?
-H

I'd be weary of any problems with the EGR system and the carb. I'm sure the carb isn't jetted for use with EGR, so that might cause some issues. I have a Edelbrock Q-jet on my 472, so it was a bolt on. I also have the Edelbrock intake, so I'm not using EGR.
As for the distributer, that should fit fine, as long as it's for the 425, 472, 500 series engines. If your car has the AIR system, the crossover tube will hit the larger HEI distributer. On my 472 I got rid of that system as well and I am running a rebuilt HEI from a 425.

Thanks for pointing out the EGR system. I guess it was introduced on these '73 models. I'll think about either rejetting or bypasing the EGR system alltogether. Here in north carolina, the emmissions testing cutoff is 1975 I think, so I should be fine.

Well, in some rural NC counties (lenoir, duplin, jones, onslow, wayne) there is either NO emission testing, or only on 96+ models.
Thanks, and God Bless,
Dave.

If you are going to block off the EGR system. The aftermarket Cadillac performance parts places sell EGR block off plates. Just an FYI!

Thanks, but being all new to cadillac, I have not been able to locate many places that sell performance parts for these older boats. Which places online should I look at?

Here's a couple I've dealt with before:

http://www.mtscadparts.com/MTSHome.htm

http://www.cad500parts.com/index.htm

There's also Potter and Torque Inc., but I haven't used them yet.

Enjoy, and keep the credit card in your wallet! Don't say I didn't warn ya!
