1996 Fleetwood Brougham SS Cashmere/Tan (Still Have)
If I had more room I'd have kept em all...well most of em. All were very reliable. Much more so that the awful Mercedes Benzes I've stupidly purchased over the years. My 77 Deville starts every time and runs great! The 64 Deville was pretty rough...beat up by a farmer in Iowa.
Anyone want to trade an old caddy for a highly maintained 1987 Mercedes 560SEL? The Benz just sits and I'd rather look at an old caddy!
Cheers,
David |

My 1995 Fleetwood Brougham is my first Cadillac.
Some of you may remember me as a Moparnut.
My father had Lincolns or Oldsmobiles, and I loved my 1960 Mercedes 220Sb. But I must admit I am awed by this Cadillac.
Maybe it's the LT-1. Or maybe it's Shane Cobb's Stage II 4L60E. Who knows? But what a totally under-rated automobile.
I guess the auto press just loves to bash American made or something but in the short time I've had this vehicle, it's made more than one ricer and just as many sausage haulers look silly both at a traffic light grand prix and in the twisties.
Maybe I've chosen my "victims" well so far, but it's hilarious to see a 535i skid into a ditch in my rear view mirror as he tries to follow me on a winding road. And I'm old enuf to be that kid's grand dad.

'04 CTS Red Line. | Got any pictures? I guess they could be scanned. How did the leather age back before all the government mandated safety chemicals? |

I was part owner of a 1940 LaSalle Convertible which the "legal" owner and I used to race around a vacant soybean field northeast of Indianapolis years ago.
Geeez, what that car would be worth today!
Oh, well, I was 15 and stupid as the proverbial boxorox.
Now you know where my paper route money went for that year.
But at least we sold the drive line (flathead and manual trans) to a guy who put it in his beat-to-death '42 Cadillac. The rest we (sob, sniffle) burned and sold to a scrap dealer.

I owned the thing in 1961 and the upholstery looked new, not a blemish. The rubber floor mat was original and wasn't worn even under the gas pedal. There was a lot of black enamel and a little chrome on the engine. The thing had 150,000 miles plus. The guy that owned it before me gave it to me when I inquired about it. The guys wife about did handsprings. I jumped it and it started right up. The front end was so worn out that it was just about undrivable. There were 14 leaves in the rear springs and it weighed 6500 lbs on the scales. I put some kingpins in it and that helped a little on the steering. I wound up giving it away to a guy that wanted the transmission. |

| | Cadillac Owners Fanatic Cadillac(s): 78 Eldorado x2; 99 Eldorado | | Join Date: Feb 2004 Location: Boston area Age: 42 | | | Re: Older Cadillacs You Have Owned let's see.... going backwards:
1978 Eldorado Bairritz Classic (x2 - one is a parts car) - my current project
1986 Fleetwood Brougham - got rid of to make room for the 78
1999 Eldorado - my current main car - got 105k on it
1985 Sedan De Ville - fixed it and sold it
1983 Coupe DeVille - HT4100 died mid-way home on me on this one
1983 Eldorado - got it for $600 because it needed a water pump. swapped out the pump in 4 hours and had the car a total of a month before my wife bent the frame. such a shame. she hit a bad pothole, blew two tires, did a 720 and bounced off a very high curb and wound up on someone's lawn. she was OK - the car didn't make it.
1983 Sedan DeVille - got it for $200 - had a rear engine seal leak that left 1/3 of a quart of oil if I stopped at a redlight. it went to the boneyard pretty fast lol
1982 Sedan DeVille - sold it
1978 Eldorado - bought for $200 in 1995. needed a CV joint. had to give it up because the frame rotted through. I used to use this car to tow my buddies around when their junkers bit the dust. I remember one time a buddy had an old postal service jeep that he managed to shoot a hole through the side of his dinky engine while on rt2 here in MA. I hooked up my chains around his bumper and started towing. as we were going along I looked in the rear view mirror and noticed smoke billowing out from all four of his tires - his brakes locked up while I was towing him and we were grinding his rotors and drums to hell. we had no choice but to continue so I towed him for another 10 miles like that without my eldo skipping a beat. man I miss that car... which is why I have another one now! =)
1977 Coupe DeVille - flintstones car. the floorboards had rusted completely through. This is also the car I nearly died in. it was a super-cold morning back in jan of 90. I warmed the car up for 10 minutes then took off for work. some of the soundproofing material in the back seat was actually poking through the rotted floor and was touching the muffler. the car was running very rich and at times the muffler glowed red hot. well put the two together and you get fire. I smelled what I thought was burning pancakes and looked around and didn't see anything. I kept heading to work but happened to glance in my rear view mirror and noticed a huge black spot spreading on the riser that the rear seat was on and just at that moment the rug burst into flame.. I cut over three lanes and pulled into the breakdown lane and jumped out to look underneath and saw the problem.. whipped open the passenger door and stamped out the flames and ripped out the back seat and then started throwing all the burning soundproofing material on the road. as I was doing this a cop pulls up behind me as I'm in the back seat of the car.. comes up and gives me the "what seems to be the problem son?" look and I scream "MY CAR'S ON FIRE!!!!" at him. He jumps in his cruiser and escorts me to the nearest gas station and commandeers the attendant and tells him "son, you better get this guy a bucket of water or you're gonna have a big problem on your hands". the attendant grabs a hose and we douse the floor, finally putting out the fire. That day I replaced all the floors and bought a new carb. heh.. good times
1976 Coupe DeVille - not technically MY car but it's the car that started my love affair with the Caddy. my best friend at the time got it from his parents and we used to cruise around everywhere in that car. white with a red leather interior. 500cc engine. pure comfort. the chicks LOVED us in that car. I'm still looking for another one although they're hard to find around here. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
