Diagnostic scanner recomendation needed

My '95 FW has the check engine light on and with this year you can't just connect the A-B diagnostic connector pins and get the light to flash codes, you need a scan tool. What is a good brand to look at other than the factory expensive Tech1 and Tech2 models?

If you need more in depth info, go to www.akmcables.com, buy the appropriate cable, and then you can get Freescan, or any of the other available software out there. There are links on the akm site. Of course, you'll need a laptop. Also, I would highly recommend a Factory Service Manual. I got one on ebay for less than $20 shipped. It contains a wealth of knowledge, including flowcharts for what to do after you find out what codes you have. With these and a little automotive knowledge, you should be in good shape.
