Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

Remove this ad
A friend of mine just saw a Gold 93 Fleetwood out in the country about 50 miles west of me. He said it is real clean..LT1 engine but mileage wasnt listed on window and no one was around. Price was 5200. Is it worth a drive out there and an appointment to check it out. I am not familiar with FWD, but if it's nice,, I might just buy it.

Thanks FOSS for opinions on this.

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

1993 won't have the LT1 engine. The old 5.7L is a nice engine too but I don't know how driving them compares to the LT1. That price is going to depend on milage but is probably good.

The way people use FWD around here gets confusing

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

Thanks for the quick reply, 'brougham'. Would that early 5.7 be a Cadillac engine block. The reason I ask is that if it is Chevy block, I have 3 in storage at my old shop, along with two pair of performance heads 3 cranks and misc parts. I can always build up a Bowtie smallblock if the car seems slow. Being in Georgia and a one owner, it wont have seen bad winters. Thanks again. I'll check it out.

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

No, it's the normal 350 with the throttle body fuel injection. I like the way my Brougham drives with it but you could probably improve it more with those performance parts you have! It sounds like it would be worth it for you to check out

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

Fleetwoods are beautiful cars, but this one has no motor at all. I offered him a lowball and he said he had to think on that. Theses Fleets need cubes..

Thanks to all who helped...If the deal closes ..I will do a 406 SB... If not
I roll the Seville.

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

I drive a beautiful white and red '93 everyday, and though I at first thought it would be a dog from what everyone says, it actually is quite quick. I like to call it "The Turbine" because it is so smooth, so silky, so silent, and so quick, it's very much like a turbine engine--very strange considering the age of the design and its 185 horses on paper.

Maybe mine's just a too good example, but it really is quick. Off the line, it could use a little more punch, but even then, will run like hell if you give it some gas. Some synthetic oil only seemed to help matters.

The LT1 seems like a great thing to have in the newer models, but I'm quite happy with my "old" TBI and its power!

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

Thanks to all for replies. This one had paint problems and in need of tires and maintenance. The engine was real smooth. and performed OK. Fleets remind me of what a Cadillac does best. Just being a real Nice ride, but I think I will keep an eye out for one that had more maintenace than this one had.

TY again, I can see why FOSS folk are so loyal to their Fleetwoods.

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

It took us four tries to find one that wasn't falling apart, so I know where you're coming from. We wanted black, for the obvious reasons, but all three that we looked at ranged from having a lot of dents, to having moldings that were completely falling off or falling apart, cracked up dashboards, interior rips, and were just generally disgusting.

Saw an ad the night after we looked at #2 & 3, and called. Found out that it not only had 88k miles (less than any of the other ones), but was white with a red leather interior, a rare and perfect match to the Roadmaster we already had. I was shocked at how muddy and filthy the outside was when we pulled up, but it was in a very affluent neighborhood, and was obviously worlds above the pieces of crap we had previously looked at. Found out then that it had also been taken to the local Caddy dealer every 6 months where they were told to check and replace or fix ANYTHING they thought was needed. Wrote a check in about 3 minutes!

These gems are out there, but it seems to take quite a few tries when dealing with Fleetwoods!

'93 tow package got 3.73 gears. that and 300 lb of torque should get up.

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

I don't think ours has the Tow Package, but it is still very quick. From a dead stop, you can feel how heavy the car is and it can be a little sluggish unless you push it, but on a day above 45 degrees (cold seems to make it a little gruff), it will just fly like crazy on the highway. I regularly drive on a 4-lane back and forth to school everyday, and after this car is up to speed (55-60), it will just go, non-stop like a freight train. I was going about 83 the other day to get around a big rig and was barely even feathering the gas pedal.

I think a part of it is the gearing, but I'm still not sure what this car has. I'd assume it has the 3.08 that the brochure said '93 Broughams has standard.

Bottom line, it has crazy speed on the highway (where this car was meant to be!) and barely sips any gas for its monster size--26 mpg is about normal!

Re: Apprecite the FOSS opinions on a 93....

Oh, and I forgot to say! I think I'm going to go look at another '93 for sale sometime this weekend. It's only 15 minutes up the road, and the ad said Brougham package, roadster roof, garage kept, and 120k "vacation" miles. Price is $4900. It's so close, I just have to look! I could always use another Fleetwood!
