Hello All,
I have been going back and forth for awhile on whether or not to keep my 1990 Brougham 5.7 Liter. I bought it about a year and a half ago when my Park Avenue was on its last legs and I needed an inexpensive car. It was my daily driver for about a year until my grandfather decided to sell his Silverado, which has been immaculately maintained. I had some money saved up and wanted a more modern, reliable daily driver, so I bought the Silverado, continuing to drive the Caddy whenever the mood strikes me.
What I am struggling with is that, while I still love driving the Cadillac, it definitely has some issues. It has lived in the midwest its whole life, so it has some rust on the doors, trunk, and minor rust on the hood. Underbody rust is there, but not too bad for Minnesota. Also the vinyl top is cracked and needs replacement. Mechanically, it has a ticking lifter when cold, but runs/drives/shifts great otherwise. All accessories work. The interior is in very good shape, except for minor wear on the driver's seat and a sagging headliner. I have put new tires, rear brakes, alternator, and blower motor and resistor in since owning the car. It has just under 90,000 miles on it.
I guess my question is, what would you do? Should I quit worrying and just have fun with it or sell it? I don’t think I will restore it, as it needs a fair amount of work and I would want a D’Elegance if I was going to invest the time and money to restore it. However, it doesn't cost me much to keep it as long as it stays relatively reliable. Insurance and registration are cheap and I have a garage to keep it in. And like I said, I do genuinely enjoy driving it. I just worry that the rust and other issues are going to make it tough to sell if I hang on to it for too long.
Sorry for the long post, just thought I'd share my situation and get some input from some of you folks. Thanks.
