1992 cadillac brougham 5.0 motor, 50,000 original miles. Had a miss especially when cruise was on, caused a check engine light, code showed O2 sensor. Plugs changed about 12,000 miles ago, as well as fuel pump about same time. Changed O2 sensor, helped, but still slight miss, threw no CEL or codes.Changed plug wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil. wouldn't start. Book had rotation wrong, changed wire order on cap, still wouldn't start. thought distributor pickup might be bad, changed distributor, still wouldn't start. any suggestions?
depends what book he was reading. If it's a FSM for the correct year and engine then yeah, a bit unusual. But if it's a hanes or the like then it covers many models and years and may be incorrect.
Redo your wiring. Make sure #1 on the distributor is the terminal closest to the driver's headlight. If you've actually taken the distributor out of the engine, you'll need to reinstall it correctly, and find TDC on #1 first. The rotor has to be pointing in the correct place before you drop it. Did you mark the rotor before you pulled the dist?
Then, replace your ignition control module. That's the only part I see that you haven't changed. However, I strongly suspect that you have the distributor in wrong.
I notice there are two duplicate posts on this topic, perhaps the mods can merge them?
