A friend offered me a power antenna from a 91 Brougham which he thought may fit my 79 deVille. This doesn't sound right to me but I wanted to know for sure.

About 10 years ago I replaced the original antenna on my 79 with an aftermarket power antenna assembly which still works but needs to be replaced because the plug came off the cable and now I no longer get AM. Of course I can't locate the car's original antenna that I thought was saved somewhere.

If this 91 antenna is not workable then I will attempt to find a used antenna from a 1979, will 77-78 work as well? Those two years had the dash switch which my 1979 does not.

The '81 looks similar and there wasn't a lot of design change that it wouldn't work. I don't have pics on this computer. Try and mock it up.

I used a later 80s/early 90s on on my 81. All I had to do was alter the mounting a little on the later antenna. Dig in my "Cadillac" section of my photobucket. My internet is too slow right now to get the links.

Doesn't the 1991 have a power antenna on the rear fender? This doesn't seem compatible with a 1979 with a power antenna on the front fender.

Nope. B bodies didn't have antennas on the quarters.

Roadmaster sedans also have the antenna mounted on the rear fender.

You are thinking of the '93-'96 Fleetwoods. '90-'92 Broughams have the fender mounted antennas, just like '77-'89

    How about repairing the connector?

Is that possible? Connector pulled off the cable completely.

Yes, you can get the connector from a place like Monoprice, and the crimping tool at Home Depot (or Monoprice). It's coax, same as cable TV.

Re: power antenna from 1991 fit my 1979?

I've repaired connectors. If what you have is a cable that used to plug into the radio with a ripped off connector there's hope.

Most car coaxial cable uses a tiny inner conductor to give it a high impedance. The cable is not matched as most coax is. This makes it a little tricky but not impossible.

Glad someone still cares about AM : )

If it's the the end connector with the pin like the kind that pushes straight into the back of the radio you can get replacements for those at Radio shack. They come with little set screws that hold it all together so you don't need any special tools.

Thanks everyone! I will give it a try with these suggestions and hope my existing setup can be made to work again. FM is currently fuzzy and AM does not come in at all which is frustrating since, yes Ape, I love AM talk radio, particularly Rush, and lately listening through my device on iHeart and my Bluetooth headset is a PITA.

I will report back on what happens after I get the parts and pieces and attempt the repair - maybe I will have the mechanic tackle it too, we'll see. I appreciate the advice and counsel as always!
