Breaker 1-9!!! Smokey up ahead! That's funny, but tragic, when our government gets out of control and tries to be our mom whether we want it or not. Here is a link to an article I posted in the forum Lounge recently:

How did this 8 year old thread get dredged up anyway?

IIRC, my 86 factory service manual has the cb radio listed in it in the radio diagnosis section, and for sure its in the RPO list.

Yes, I did some homework and you are correct, CB was an option still on the 1986 Fleetwood Brougham, which, from what I can tell, was the last year for the option on rear drive Cadillacs.

Cadillac used a diplexer to allow the antenna to work on CB plus AM/FM broadcast bands. The antenna was also different than the usual affair IIRC. I bought one of those diplexers on ebay a few years ago with the idea of putting it to work.

I know, I cringed when I posted that, lol. Here's a better shot of the factory CB radio in my '79 DeVille.

Re: Caddy Put Cb Radios In These Things?

My Caddy has had a CB in it since it was new (non-factory). It hasn't worked since about 2001 but this year I got a bug to fix all the little things that are wrong with the car including the CB so I am working on that now. I mostly want my CB working for the PA under the hood. My Grandpa had a bunch of CB stuff I inherited including a Realistic CB-Fone. I am putting it in the car as soon as it gets out of storage since I have wanted to pretend I am on an episode of CHiP's or Dukes of Hazzard since I got his stuff and found this GEM.

^my Grandpa bought it in 1976 and never used it. I fired it up the other day in my lesabre with a radio shack antenna and it works really good. Since I don't intend to use it for more than a PA, I think the 70's James Bond car phone effect is more than worth it

^ Just a "Look at me" pic!

Very cool! I can't get any stations with my CB, just dead air. Antenna is hooked up, just assumed nobody used CB anymore. would love to have it working & see what's there to hear!

Does your car have a tri-band antenna? They look different from a standard antenna with a wider cylinder in the middle when extended. If you don't have this type of antenna then I doubt you will be able to receive CB on your original factory radio.

Frank Cannon - if you haven't seen it (or don't remember it) watch the movie "Return of Frank Cannon" to see him in a 1978 Cadillac LeCabriolet in black exterior with burgundy leather interior. That car is shown in the movie almost as much as Frank is! Fun to see.

Here's the right way to put a radio in a Cadillac.

Here's the description from the 1977 sales brochure: "AM/FM Pushbutton Stereo Radio with Citizens Band -- This exciting new radio is available for the first time for Cadillac..." It's interesting to note that the original 1977 version of this CB only had 23 channels! The 1978 had 40 channels.

Looking at the sales literature, the 8-track/CB combo radio was introduced in 1978. The electronically tuned receiver (ETR) radio was an option starting in 1978 and standard in 1979 when cassette, 8-track, CB, and 8-track/CB versions were all offered. 1980 was the first year of ETR cassette with CB.

    Breaker 1-9!

You could also get 8 track (at least until the electronically tuned radios came out- never seen an 8 track in an ETR radio. I'd imagine they continued until the early 80s with the 8 track though)
