    Angry Death of a Brougham

hey guys, Ive posted a few questions on here about my old 88 Brougham. Unfortunately she gave up the ghost yesterday afternoon, caught on fire on the way to work. I almost gave in and sent her off to the crusher, but I cant bring myself to do it. I will be in need of replacement parts from the dash forward, including any parts of the engine that were ruined in the fire.

had a cracked fuel line, was dumping fuel on top of the motor, im assuming it flared up and caught the insulation on fire and spread from there

that sucks. Is it a 307? If it is I have just about any engine parts you may need for it as I have a complete engine in my parts car and will be pulling my 87's engine soon to replace it with an LT1.

It could have been a lot worse...

There are a ton of these in the yards here if you need body or electrical parts. I'm sure I could get you an entire wiring harness.

I have a dash in Balboa blue. Its empty...no radio, no HVAC, no vents, no cluster, no dashpad. It has the dummy light circuit and glove box door.
I also have a Balboa blue front header panel. No headlights, no headlight trim, no emblem. Wifey would love to see these go bye bye.

I have a grille for 86-89 and another for 90-92. The 90-92 one is better. Both are taking up space. I also have under the headlight fillers (white), and I'm pretty sure I have spare cornering lamps and turn signals.

Sorry, to see your nice Caddy end up like this.

I'm sure you don't want to hear this, but here goes. You're from NC, where beautiful rustfree cars are plentiful. You probably can replace that for $2500, I think I would go that route. There is just to much damage to your car: windshield, top, interior, wiring, paint, every plastic and rubber part, engine. It is totaled. It would cost you a fortune to repair and it would never be right.

I'm with Tom on this one. It is wonderful that our membership will step up immediately with parts help. However... with parts prices, paint, and a top, you'll be upside down in that car immediately. Take the insurance, put the extra money that would have gone into parts/paint/top, and buy another nice one.

    That was my first thought.
Considering it got hot enought to crack the windshield, there's no telling what hidden damage there is.

    Re: Death of a Brougham

if the car didnt belong to my aunt, and one I remember going on trips in as a kid, I would agree with you guys, I have already bought a a little ford contour to get me to work, so i can focus on restoring her the right way, the roof damage was from before, the damage seems to be localized to the dash and forward. What hurts my feelings the most is that the wood trim was in perfect condition before this happened.

and yes outsider thats the 307, if you guys can send me prices, either in pm or on here, we can try to work something out. it will be 1 1/2 weeks until I have any money to speak of however, the tow bill was outrageous.

You don't have insurance on this vehicle? Tow should have been covered.

My insurance doesn't cover tows either, Jay.

(been there done that - shut up. )

Sorry to see this, man. I know all about putting way-too-much money into a car you love/keep for sentimental reasons. I'll probably arrange to be buried in my wagon.

You'll get her fixed... and learn a shitload in the process. I know I have.
