| | Cadillac Owners Member | | | | 1990 Brougham 5.7 cruise control Cruise control operates normally for several miles, then turns off completely, including power. Power returns after a minute, but cruise control is disengaged and must be reset, only to turn itself off again. Sound familiar to anyone? Where is the cruise control module located on this model? |

Mine was doing that, until it completely lost power, which I believe was the breaker. |

Its a 1991 with the 350, still has all the orginal vacume lines. Haven't really looked into it though, since I never drive where that feature would be useful. |

I also had a charging issue which I fixed that I suspect might have been related to this problem. Haven't road tested the cruise yet......

Stripped gears in the cruise module, or broken wires in the steering column. |

It is electrical in nature. I can personally attest to this; when I was doing my vacuum lines, I completely disconnected the cruise control servo. Prompted by one of Dopestar's posts, about the CC switch turning off, and him thinking it was vacuum related, I drove around with the CC servo on. After forty-five minutes, the lights never went out. |

For the longest time, if I drove around with the switch up, but the cruise disengaged, it would blow the fuse. If I drove with cruise engaged, it would be fine. However, now neither of the lights come on, and cruise will not engage. Haven't checked the breakers or anything yet. |

Mine's still broken. That cruise module is impossible to get out. Still haven't successfully done that..... |

Need to work on cruise on the 90, replace spark plugs and wires as well. Also have a loose piece of trim. The 65 needs to be taken in to have carb work.... |

I have a GM Cruise Control service manual that goes over the 4 different types of CC they used in the '80's. Based on the descriptions of 2 of them, DFI and Custom Cruise III, I can't tell which one Cadillac used in their non Cadillac engines. The diagrams of the DFI system look just like ours (same dash switches, vacuum release valves, and CC sevo), but it operates differently in that it can only be diagnosed through ECM DTC's. The hardware of the Custom Cruise III system is completely different (except for the vacuum routing to the servo), but it can only be diagnosed through electronic testing, with a test lamp or DVOM. The introduction to the Custom Cruse III system says "By 1984 Custom Cruise III was implemented across all GM lines, except Cadillac's using the DFI system." My FSM doesn't say which type is used, and gives limited instructions for servicing the CC. |

Cadillac stopped caring about the Brougham the minute they dropped the entitlement of Fleetwood from the name badge.
You were supposed to buy a deVille with all of the fancy safety features, the fuel injection, the cool sleek aerodynamics, and all that other computer controlled golly good green s**t. |

A Chrysler turbo New Yorker was a bigger, better appointed, more distinctive looking car with better fuel economy. Hell, the Buick Park Ave/Olds 98 could be had with all the luxury goodies, looked almost identical to the Deville, had a much better motor under the hood, and were thousands cheaper. I really think Cadillac lost its soul with the 1985 Deville/86 Seville and Eldorado. | | Cadillac Discussion Tools | | |
