    Missing interior pieces?

I've always wondered why this was here and I never really looked at it but was waiting in the car and looked up in it and it looks like something might have gone there? Looks like a plug and clip for something? Anyone have another RWDFWB who could help?

I'm assuming you're talking about the space under the overhead lights?
Thats for a factory garage door opener. It was made so that one could be popped right in. Theres a clip of some sort to hold it and a power plug in the back

If, in fact, thats what you are referring to, you need the newer style opener with the orange LED. Thats assuming you have a newer garage opener with rolling code technolegy. The one shown is the 70's style using dip switches. AND dont stick anything in there other than a Caddy opener. Its got votage in there that could blow a fuse!

Yes, the one I've got is just for looks! If you want it to work, you need the later one. The later ones just don't "look" 80s...

That looks like the ones I have. They fit Fleetwoods, DeVilles, Sevilles & Eldorados from early 1990s up thrpugh 2005 (or until the last year of a model!).

They also remember their settings. I took one from my 2000 Eldorado and put in my 1996 Fleetwood, and started hunting down the original hand opener. Then I just tried the buttons and wala - it worked!!!

    Re: Missing interior pieces?

I took one of the newer Caddy openers and installed it in my 86 BMW a few years ago. I simply soldered 2 wires to the metal leads sticking out the back of the opener module. One for switched power, the other for ground. Used VELCRO and put it under the dash just right of the steering column.

Interesting. I have an extra GM opener. that was programmed for my door. I might try to wire it up with my 1968.

You could probably do a nice mount in one of the ashtrays (and, there's power there!).
