My wife calls my Cad an old mans car.

So my wife calls my 1995 triple black Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham (that I picked up a month ago) an old mans car. How can I change her mind? I'm having a new 7", JVC touch screen CD/DVD stereo professionally installed as soon as the installation parts arrive and having the few door dings removed then having the Cad detailed. It will be the ultimate casino hopper around. So what's her complaint?
She prefers the Suburban and her Altima but tuns her nose up at the Cad and the red Corvette?
Is it me or is she just a girl?

She's just a girl dude.. My wife didn't really care for my 94 initially either.. until we took a couple of drives downtown, usually right after it's been washed. The amount of people snapping their necks to look surprised her. Then, if we take it out somewhere I'll get at least one comment either leaving or entering the car. Mostly from younger people (40-ish and younger), although the old guys loooove the car.. She tolerates it now, and loves to ride in it, but still wishes I'd bought something more "practical", whatever that means..

Yeah, I get ya. Mine loves the ride. A little too cushy even for me but it's a terror on those bumps.
Bumps? What bumps? It's as smooth as glass.
I haven't had it out as much as I should but first of the year it's going almost everywhere. Hopefully we going out other than Christmas shopping to get the looks you've mentioned.

So much for women not caring about what kind of car a man drives!

My opinion is, Don't even try to change her mind.

If you like the car, that's all that matters.

I've got a triple black FWB as well and mine didn't want me to buy it and now doesn't want me to sell it. She calls it 'the black bitch' but keeps it clean inside and sits outside with me when I wash/wax. We drive it on trips, to the grocery store, or just to cruise. Give her time to come around. If she doesn't take Ape Man up on his offer.

My girlfreind actually left me over my Brougham. She went on vacation with her family knowing I was going to buy a car, it was suppost to be a 2000 ford focus, the car "she wanted". Instead she came back to find the Caddy in my driveway. I was "irresponcible", "a man child" and a few other names I won't repeat. She took her things and never came back again... honestly I have to say my car was the best thing that ever happened to me haha. Oh the money I have been able to save.

Re: My wife calls my Cad an old mans car.

Family said the same about my PA when I got it back in 01(especially the sis in law). It got 28 mpg, no sore back and can pack the family in it no problem. Floated down the road and handled great. After a 700 mile trip no problem, their crappy cars they can't go 2 hrs without sore backs and crap strapped onto top of car.
They got a ride in the Caddy last year, now they're jealous and make fun of us for having 2.
Having grown up with big cars I can't stand a puddle jumper...
The wife's friends at work make fun of her "old lady car" until they ride in it.

Re: My wife calls my Cad an old mans car.

    HaHa,

When I first meyt my wife, I had a all black 1970 Fleetwood Brougham; it dwarfed the 1993-96 cars. She loved it it; called it mafioso (She's from NYC).

Interestingly, when I first got my 1992 LeSabre in Nov 1991,she call that an "old man's car". I was 30. But pretty soon, she really came around to liking it, the color (dark Jade metallic) and the touring supsension helped keep from wallowing around in turns. We put almost 200,000 miles on it before trading it.

When I traded the LeSabre in for the 1995 Fleetwood Brougham (again, all black) she again remarked that it was "too mafioso" but didn't have any old man comments about it. We ran that one to 198,000 miles.

Your GF will come around, especially if you go on any long trips in it. These cars are phenomenal highway cruisers. You can go 12-14 hours and not be fatigued when you stop for the night.

Try that i any mid size or smaller car.

I did - in a Miata, Tampa FL to Ft Dix, NJ in 1.5 days. I had the car stuffed with uniiforms, etc. My arms nearly vibrated off!

Ask her if her old lady Altima can do this.
