Behind your entire dash board radio gauge cluster etc. It mounts to the firewall on the inside cab of the car.

Even so an idler pulley is non adjustable not like a tensioner which could have something considered a "brace"

I suspect the Service Manual is referring to the INSTRUMENT panel as I am trying to see where the radio grounds to the car.

    Re: IP Brace

Those old radios were heavy and had a rear support. Maybe that's the IP. The place I work has I.P. addresses starting with the number 3 because it's an old company.

The radio chassis itself was connected to ground as was the shield of the antenna coaxial cable at the antenna.

Don't remember where the ground wire went but it was almost certainly to the shell of the dash.

    Re: IP Brace

So does that mean the radio needs to be wired somehow to its brace in order to complete the circuit? I cannot figure out for the life of me why the 8-track would work...but not the radio end.

Nothing to do with a ground. Something wrong with the HU itself

    Re: IP Brace

    I am confused...HU?

I am guessing the radio should be removed for service...right?
BUT WHERE to bring it. Would my local Cadillac dealer be able to help?

HU - Head Unit - the radio.

Forget the dealer. Just google vintage car radio repair, there are several companies that can repair it.

Thanks! When I bought the car, I knew the radio did not work. I was hoping it was an easier fix...but we all know how it goes with cars that are almsot 40 years old.
Do you know what would have made it go bad?

Can't help you there. Other than the basics, electronics are NOT my thing.

Someone may have abbreviated it's design.
