    aluminum wheels, really?

Never realized until I started looking st SPID codes in the trunk yesterday.
The black wheels that came with wire hub caps are aluminum. I wondered why they are so thick. I thought there was a mistake in the code description so I tried a magnet on them.
Anyways, just a cool finding in my opinion. But you guys most probably know about that.

Do they have 12-holes going around the center? Do they look like this?

They only came standard with the wire wheel option in '86 and '87. They're 15x6, so I don't know if they will fit the 5x5 bolt patter of other Cadillac years/models.

Yes those are the ones. So they weren`t standard on all Broughams with the wire hubcaps? Mine is a 1987 so that explains it. It is too bad they are not 7 in. wheels.

I got to admit, that is a bit of a shocker.

My car is an 86 and has steel wheels. I also have yet to see wheels like that in the junkyard on a brougham.

I've never seen then either... I wonder if they were actually standard with wire wheels, or were an additional $350 to be added to the $400 wire wheel hubcap option. They weren't listed in brochures for either '86 or '87, so they were intended to be an SNS option anyway.

Is the car a CA car? If so, could it be an option for better fuel economy or some crap like that?

I think it was purchased in Virrginia. Don`t know if it is a CA option.

I've heard of someone having them before but there didn't seem to be any pattern to what cars have them.

15" diameter, 6" wide. 5 lug holes on a 5" bolt circle. They will fit every full size RWD Cadillac from the 50s to 1996.

    Re: aluminum wheels, really?

I just picked up a set this summer off an 87. I assumed all the 80's cars with wire hubcaps had them. They are very light and I can't wait to try them on my Seville. Keep a look out at the junkyards before those nice aluminum wheels go to the crusher.

When I decoded my body plate it listed aluminum wheels and I thought I read it wrong! Will have to carry a magnet to the yard next time!
