92 Brougham starting problem, any advice appreciated

I have a 92 Brougham 5.7L with almost 87k on it. Hd it for a few weeks now and all has been good without problems. Parked it for 5 days and when I went to start it lights, radio and everything turned on but nothing cranked, dead quiet. Took the battery out to test and found it to be good. Shifted it to neutral and back to park but nothing. Towed it to my mechanic who said when it arrived it started right up. They checked all the obvious but couldn't get it to do the same thing. Has anyone else had this happen or may know what caused this? I pick it up tomorrow but would hate to be stranded in similar situation.
    Thank you

my guess would be either starter going out or maybe a loose or damaged wire to the starter

In order of probability through personal experience:

    1. Battery connections (including at the starter or grounds)
    2. Starter
    3. Fuel pump

I would agree with 1 and 2 on Jay's list.

I'd guess cable or starter. Usually when it's the starter you'll hear a loud click from it sort of like what you hear when the battery is too low to turn it over and you can notice the lights dim.

If it don't start again , just give the starter a rap with a wrench or something hard and heavy and if its the starter it will start right up when you try starting it..

You can also take starter off and have it tested at most auto parts stores for no charge. I had one that was 3 yrs. old that went bad.
