    Carpet replacement

Planning on replacing the stock carpet in my 1995 Fleetwood. Through some unfortunate circumstances this summer and a persistent mold problem, I can't get seem to completely deodorize the car no matter what I do. Extremely annoying on a car that was practically like new when I bought it, but whatever. The honeymoon's over.

Was wondering if anyone had replaced a carpet before, and if you could recommend a good place to buy from. I was looking at stockinteriors.com. They sent me samples and they seem pretty nice. Was thinking of going a shade darker to match the gray on the dashpad and to add some contrast.

    Any input?

Before you replace the carpet make sure you eliminate the mold and the source of the mold or your wasting your money!

Thanks for the tip. Been there, done that. Had the whole carpet out, bleached the floor and the carpet backing, had it steam cleaned and deodorized with all sorts of enzymatic crap, but the smell creeps back as soon as it all wears off.

I got mine from Rockauto. They had the best pricing with mass backing. I think you should go with the darker color also.

I have not done any deal with Auto Pride concepts but they seem to have decent mats in their inventory .

I had the same issue with my Gray '96 except it was in the HVAC. It would go away if I drove daily, but once it sat up a few days it was back. Ended up running two cans of Lysol through the ducts before it finally subsided.

You going with a similar type or something more plush?

    Re: Carpet replacement

I'm probably going to go as plush as possible. The essex carpet samples I got from stockinteriors are pretty nice. A little more coarse than the stock carpet in the Caddy, but also more plush, if that makes sense.

I've driven myself mad trying to deodorize this car. It especially irks me because when I bought it, it smelled like a brand new car inside. That's long gone. Now it just smells like stale air and cleaning chemicals, with an underlying hint of mildew. Really sucks. It didn't even smell too bad until I noticed the leak and pulled up the carpet, then that released the demons that were locked within.
