Replacing Rear speaker on 68 DeVille Convertible with AM/FM MONO

    Hi all.

So, I am reading in my manual about removing/replacing this 6x9. It states that I have to remove the seat for the MONO stereo! Makes sense because I don't see a way to access it from the back of the seat.

So then I am looking as to how to do this. Cannot really find how to do this in the manual.

Any assistance would be great. Thanks.

The lower seat cushion is held on by U bars that hook into slots. I believe you have to push the lower seat cushion back from its base, then lift up and forward. The seat back is held on by prongs that slip into pockets on the seat back frame. Lift the seat back up from the bottom, then pull forward.

    Good deal and thank you.

I got the bottom part off. Just could not figure out the seat back.

For those that started with a Mono, what did you all do? I thought about just running the Front /Rear as a Stereo Front channel. It would not be perfect but it would maintain the stock look/integrity.

Was the Stereo top dash pad essentially identical minus the 2 L/R speakers on top? I thought about finding a new top dash that was installed with Stereo speakers.

Pretty limited in options I think if I want to keep it original.

I've seen small round (pair) stereo speakers mounted in each stock size/mono mount . It's not something you need to fab total plug n play. I'll check if I still have the link to it.

I added two small speakers in place of the 6x9 for my rear speakers. Someone had already hacked into the doors so this is where my front speakers are.
There were two dashboards from the factory - one with a center mono speaker 4x11, and another that had stereo speaker grilles at each end of the dash.
