    Transporting a 68 Deville - trailer size?

So I bought a 68 Deville convertible remotely and need to transport it about 300 miles. I got some quotes from transport companies, but with the cost of that, I could rent a trailer and tow it myself with my truck and save a good bit of money. (Car has two busted tires, so cannot be driven long distance)

These are very wide cars (about 80 inches) so I'm having trouble finding a trailer that sounds like it would work. UHaul has a trailer that they say can handle a 75" outer wheel to outer wheel width, but I have a feeling that isn't large enough.

Has anyone rented this 75" wide trailer from UHaul to transport a car this wide, or does anyone know if it would work?

I have used them (Uhaul trailers) to haul full size Chevy trucks and it is close in length and width. I think the caddy will fit tightly but you may have to get in and out through the window.

I've used the U-Haul trailer to transport Roadmaster wagons and they're 78.1" wide. The LH fender flips down and you can easily get in and out.

I'd be more worried about length.

Like Turbo said, they will tow Roadmaster Wagons and they are wide and big. Whatever you do, don't let on to Uhaul that you are towing a big car or they'll say the trailer is too small.

You can model tow vehicle and towed vehicle combinations on the U-Haul site. Pick one that works :-p

My Avalanche towing the Roadmaster wagon was an acceptable combination. However, towing my '01 DTS with an F150 4x4 was not an acceptable combination (I changed the towed vehicle to a Cimmaron and it worked).

Why not just change the tires and drive it?

I would if I had rims and tires ready to go, but I don't want to get tires for the 13" rims that it currently has.

You can probably get a pair of rims and tires from a u-pull-it yard for less than the cost of renting the trailer.

I've hauled my 69 on a 16 or 17 foot 2 axel trailer...had to take the ramps off because it was so big but it can be done.

    I hope those show up.

The U-haul ramps slide into the bottom of the trailer so you should be good.

Check the wheelbase of the Caddy versus a Roadmaster wagon. As you can see, there's not much more room there.

Any 5x5 wheel will work. All RWD full size Caddy to 96. 91-96 Caprice/Roadmaster/Custom Cruiser/Fleetwood. All 71-76 GM RWD full size. All 77-90 GM full size wagons. All 5 bolt RWD full size pickups from GM. All 5 bolt GM Astro/Safari vans. Mid 70s full size Fords, too. You probably know someone that will loan you a set of wheels and tires for the trip. I have at least five extra sets in my garage, and there arre lots more like me out there....
