    Error code 44

I got an error code of 44 on my 1993 Cadillac Fleetwood. Is that as simple as replacing the O2 sensor, to correct this problem? The car actually has a bad hesitation and this code finally appeared. Thanks

    Re: Error code 44

In my experience, when the O2 sensor starts to go bad, it usually trips code 45 (rich exhaust). Before replacing it, check for vacuum leaks or a leak in the exhaust pipe before the O2 sensor.

If the vacuum lines and exhaust system are okay, then replace the sensor. If the issue still persists after the new sensor, then the problem may be with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or with clogged/dirty fuel injectors. There could also be an issue with water contaminated gasoline (especially if the problem started after you filled the tank), low fuel pressure, or even a possible malfunction in the vehicle's computer.

Thanks for the reply. We replaced the o2 sensor, throttle body position sensor, IAC valve, cap, rotor, plugs and wires. The biggest problem now is when the car kicks into overdrive all it does is stumbles and misses and carries on. As long as the RPM's are kept up the car runs fine.

I am not expert by any means but and Air Flow Meter failures may also need to be replaced besides fuel pressure needs to checked

After all that fuss, we ruled out fuel pump, transmission, and spark. It ended up being the fuel pressure regulator on top of the throttle body. It's finally running like a Cadillac again!!!!!!! Thank you everybody for your help.
