    It's true.

    Re: 1968 Deville wheel replacement

I finally got a chance to measure those wheels today and there is definitely a measurable difference. A regular Olds Chevy wheel has a lip measuring about 5/16". The caddy wheel has a lip measuring almost 9/16". That is a difference of about 1/4" and will make a difference in mounting old Cadillac hubcaps. I took some pics but I don't have a hosting site at the moment. Photobucket seems to shrink all my pics and I haven't bothered to figure it out. I will just change to another site. If you would really like to see the pics just PM me and I can email them to you. I will get them posted here in a couple days.

Thank you for doing that. I appreciate it.

Hmm..back to either getting something completely non original or paying high dollar for a 50 year old steel wheel..

    Yep. I see it.

    Thanks.

Hey, do you/anyone happen to know if 64 Deville wheels will fit the 68? I found 2 64's for sale at a pretty good price.

    Thanks.

I really don't know, are they 15's? A lot of big cars were running 14's back then.

    Re: 1968 Deville wheel replacement

I totally passed this posting up because I felt the issue basic and academic. Juke, where are you located? You did not fill out your profile. Most of the GM full bodied cars used the 5x5 bolt pattern. I have many. Some Rally wheels for Buicks, Olds, and standards for Cadillacs, Chevies, etc. You can mount the disc brake wheels on drum brakes ( check clearances ), but not drum to discs. They have to have clearance to clear the calipers. GM did manufacture some oddball wheels for some of their special run (performance) cars. The bolt patterns are different (not 5x5 or 5x4 3/4) and the center holes do not fit the common alignment hub for standard axles. These are often found on some Chevelles and Pontiacs. A lot of Cadillac production parts are also found on GM's truck line, wheels included.

    Hi 33.

I am in Louisville KY. Sorry, I thought I had filled that out. Would you consider letting go of a set?

Just to be clear, the question is NOT what will fit. The question was what will fir AND allow for the same stock hubcaps.

Just want to be sure we are on the same page.

    Thanks.

Ok, so your covers mount on the outside of the rim lip. I will check my covers and rims and see if I have something that will work.

Hey Deville33, do your 77 hubcaps fit and stay on Olds/Chevy wheels? Your hubcaps must mount to that outside lip don't they?

On the outside? I don't think so. They squeeze in for lack of better words.

If you have extra wheels..that would be awesome. Thank you!!!

The '77 - '79 covers do not mount on the outer lip, but on the inner base of the rim.

    Re: 1968 Deville wheel replacement

My 77 Fleetwood has the stock hubcaps with the body colored centers and they attach to the outside lip like my old '70 did. So all of your '77's hubcaps attach to the inside of the wheel? How strange is that?

Yeah, I am pretty sure mine do not attach to the outer lip. They press in.
