700 mi road trip in my '79 Fleetwood

Making a run up in the 1979 Fleetwood to Arroyo Grande from San Diego this weekend to attend the 50th North-South CLC meet between the Nor Cal and So Cal regions. I will be stopping to pick up 77CDV on the way. The Fleetwood is tuned up, oil changed, 30 psi tires, and ready to roll. I will check the fuel economy and report back with the results. I am hoping to at least match The Ape Mans 17mpg. Surprisingly, my 1970 Fleetwood recently returned 15mpg on a trip, so I am optimistic!

Keep an eye on Craig, you might catch him siphoning out or adding some just to mess with your head!

P metric radials work at 35 psi. I hope you beat my figures. Then people can call you crazy.

    Have fun!

Great minds think alike. I run 35 in my 15s. Shhh, don't tell anyone.

That may explain your higher mpg's. I run my tires at 30 for the traditional Cadillac magic carpet ride. Several times the tires have been inflated higher after servicing and I found the ride noticeably harsher so they were set back to 30. I think everyone is crazy, but, of course, I'm not.

Well, gave it my best effort and she returned 14.957264957 miles per gallon. That was with ac on and 65 to 75 mph. I love traveling in this car!

That's not bad for those speeds. Anyhting above 60 MPh in those years and things get ugly fast.

I'd consider that a win. Probably could have got 16mpg if under 60mph but that's too slow now a days.

Took it on a 100 mile sight seeing trip yesterday loaded with friends. Ac on, xm radio playing 70s, 80s, and of course, seriously Sinatra stations. Passing a few slower cars on two lane Pacific coast highway 1. The fleetwood was feeling good and definitely in it's element. It is hard to beleive she will be 35 next year. Heading for home today.

She may be 35 already depending on the production date.

Good times, good times! My 79 has the exact same music going on inside and I think it adds to the polyester and lounge era that is so much fun to experience in this fabulous breed of all American old school automobiles. These 30 something year old Cadillacs are, to this day, hard to beat for overall automotive pleasure!

Made it home with no mechanical problems. 815 total miles, average mpg=14.75. It was a great weekend!

I can attest first hand as to how great Gary's 79 FWB d'E is. The whole weekend, the car performed flawlessly. Smooth, stable, quiet, supremely comfortable, and most definitely accommodating. It made everywhere we went all weekend that much better of a journey. Gary was kind enough to let me drive the car part of the way home, and it's just as nice from behind the wheel as it is from the passenger seat. And have I mentioned the awesome carpet and plush velour?
