For the map lights, remove the one screw that holds it in place, drop down the map light holder, and see if the ground is not connected. Also, see if the light bulbs are burnt out.

Also, does anything else in the car not work? Sometimes a fuse can look ok, but be blown.

    Re: 1992 Brougham radio problem

Hi and thanks. Everything else works other than the map lights and radio/ antenna. The fuel gauge is
screwy but I believe that's due do a bad sending unit.I don't know what it could be. I don't want to go to anafter market radio, but may not have a choice.

What does 'look good" mean? You did check all the fuses with a test light with the key in the ON position, right? The radio has 2 fuses, one on a switched on hot circuit and another on a constant hot fuse to retain station memory. The owners manual should point you to the right 2 fuses. Usually yellow 20 amp ones.

do you have a test light or multimeter? I'd check for power at the radio. If it is not working at all, I'd suspect it might not be getting power.

I just physically removed and looked at the fuses. I need to aquire another test light as mine was lost.
When I initially started to trouble shoot, I noticed the 10 amp radio fuse was completely gone. I put one in , but still nothing.
I then pulled the dash apart, and found both plugs disconnected from the radio.Put them back on, but still nothing ,other than the buttons now light up with the dash lights.

The back lights may be on a seperate circuit

Btw, installing something electronic to a plug that has power can blow the fuse.

Thanks. What I'm going to have to do is get another test light and
see if I actually have power going to the radio.
