Have a question about cruise - 91 Brougham

So I have a 91 Brougham and the cruise doesn't work. I've asked around to friends, club members and others but no one really knows.

When I turn on the switch on the dash the amber light comes on but when I push the SET button, nothing happens. No green light, no cruise.

So before I go digging, does anyone know what may cause that symptom? Is it the set switch in the turn signal wand, fuse, dash switch? Something else?

I don't know why cruise would have it's own fuse but maybe it does? I would start by checking the set switch and if it's good check the cruise control unit under the hood to see if it's getting power and getting the set signal when the button is pressed.

Make sure the vacuum lines to the Cruise Control Servo are connected, and don't have any leaks.

The Cruise Control Module receives a signal from the brake switch, and if the wire coming from the switch is loose or broken, the module will not allow the Cruise Control to engage. You should also pull off the connector to the CC module, and check for any loose pins or corrosion, which would cause the system to malfunction.

I think cruise will not engage if there are any ABS codes set. A bad wheel speed sensor could do that.

The ABS light doesn't mean a code has been set. It means the ABS system is turned off, so if the unit has been unplugged, the light will turn on, but the computer might not register a trouble code.
