    Having trouble removing rear wheel seal/bearing from rear shaft. 12 bolt differential

    Having trouble changing leaky wheel seal.. 1974 Cadi.. 472 c.i. any good links???.. 12 bolt This rear differential is NOT ' C ' clip type. It is bolted on to differential, 4 bolts hold the shaft in place. Help cadi dudes. when i pulled out shaft the bearing and seal comes with it . there is a circular metal holding bearing and seal in place.. Any help how to remove and replace?

    You can remove these by: 1 - heating the ring - it is a press fit and locks the bearing to the shaft. or: 2 - cold Use a chisel and hammer and place it between the retaining ring and the bearing. Strike it around the circumference of the ring and bearing. It will start to move, slowly, but will eventually come off. Then use the same tools to remove the bearing from the shaft. OR 3. take the assembly to an auto machine shop that has a press to remove the retainer and bearing and replace.

    If you choose not to send it out please wear eye protection while using a chisel.

    Use a press. Do it the right way.
