Its low on the engine block near the oil pan. Not sure what side its on but you will probably have to get to it from underneath.

On the 307 that is in your '89 Brougham, the MAP sensor is located near the top of the engine, and is on the passenger side of the engine compartment, near the A/C Accumulator (the large silver cylinder). The MAP sensor is a little black square, and underneath it there is a green connector and very small vacuum line.

If you can't find it, I can post a picture of it and it's location.

A factory service manual would be a wise investment:

I never really left, but am being very choosy as to when and where I post. I don't really have any new pictures of my car to post, but maybe I'll take some.

Thankyou very much for the pictures Sven914, and csbuckn, no i did not yet go under my car, but i suspected that you might have ment the nock sensor, gonna replace it too however and after that, i shoulld have no more codes and my Brougham should be running perfectly.

The guy i bought it from didn't know anything about how to diagnose the car and strangely he didn't care too much about the "CHECK ENGINE" light. Therefore i got the car very cheap, it had codes for the O2 Sensor, the MAP sensor and the Nock Sensor. However the engine and transmition runs flawless! (go to my profile and check it out, there's an album with some pic's on it)

Re: Location of the MAP sensor in a 1989 Brougham ?

If your are getting a code 43, there might not be an issue with your knock sensor. The 307 uses different coded than other GM engines, because it is a computer controlled carburettor.

According to my service manual code 43 is for the Electronic Spark Control (ESC) circuit. To correctly diagnose it, you need a scanner that can display the engine timing and Knock Retard.

The knock retard should be at zero with the engine idling at normal operating temperature. If it is, then have someone tap on the lower engine block and see if the knock retard increases. If it does, the issue is intermittent or has otherwise been resolved. If the retard doesn't increase, either the knock sensor or the ESC is malfunctioning.

If the knock retard is not close to zero, then there may be a bad connection between the ESC and ECM; you could try unplugging it and cleaning the terminals. If that doesn't work, either the ESC or the ECM is faulty.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Electric Spark Control is located on the firewall, directly behind the distributor; it's a black square with five wires coming off it. The yellow wire goes to the ECM and the blue wire goes to the knock sensor.

The knock sensor should be located on the side of the engine, near the oil pan but screwed into the block. I don't have a picture of it, but you should be able to find it by following the blue wire.

The ECM is located behind the glove box, and can be accessed if you remove the glove box liner.

I can now add that i've literally fixed the problem with my MAP sensor, it was a bad electrical contact which was loos that made it not to function, it was that simple!!
