Remove this ad
im planning on dropping my 84 coupe on a 91 brougham frame (350)
and was told that the only (or biggest) problem i'd have was getting the newer computer to fit into the 84 firewall....
can anyone tell me where exactly the computer is located in the firewall??
anyone else with info on doing this????

Ummmm, uh..............would it not be easier to just install the drivetrain from the 91 over to yours?

Re: 5.7liter frame to 4.1 body

Your current frame is rotted I assume. If it measures up right and the mounts fit, I just think the computer should be your only problem. If your going to be doing all that work, then you could do some fab work to make that comp fit. Talk to coupedevillerop. I think he has something like yours, not on the 91 frame of course, but he may be able to help.

yes, and no....... i'd have to weld on new motor mounts, which i really dont feel like doing

also, im reinforcing my frame, so this would be a good opportunity

besides that, i figured it would be worth it.. having a stronger engine, less rust on the frame........

(just pulling the engine and dropping it in is still an option...)

I dont know exactly why you would have to weld in new mounts. Mounting holes for the SBC mounts might already be there. I swapped in a 350 Chevy in place of a Buick V6 in an 84 Cutlass I had awhile ago and the v8 mounts fit perfectly but in different holes (which were there) on the crossmember (I used V8 Monte carlo mounts). Check and see, the mounting holes may be there since the Fleetwood is basically a Caprice frame and of course the Caprice had a small block Chevy. I dont know your car, your frame may be way to rusty I'm just observing that if its not, this is way too much effort. Good luck either way.

you just cant stand to have the same stock engine in a car huh ? so ya swap the engine in every car you get? must be a hobby or something.

yeah, im putting switches on it.....

i know it seems like alot just for an engine.. but ive was told that the mounts are different, and that id have to weld new ones in... and id rather just get the whole frame...

i guess im looking at it from the opposite side.... you guys say it's a lot more work to take the whole frame, and that it might not be worth the whole frame..

i see it like this- im taking the engine, making the computer fit, taking all the fuel/brake lines... the whole suspension... i'd rather take it all at once than have to take off and replace all the shit, one by one.....

also, im wrapping(reinforcing) the frame, so id rather do a newer frame with less rust, less buildup.... take a little time off the prep process... gives me more time to work everything else out.....

i..
yeah yeah yeah, just check to see if the holes for sbc mounts are there. Honestly Caddy's aint worth much. Trip to the local junkyard recently confirmed that. Tons of Fleetwoods, more 2 door models than 4 doors ironically. Dont spend more money and not a minute more time than you have to. I'm a real estate investor, everything (including time) is dollars and cents. :coolgleam

I'm not the 83 Caddy know-it-all you think. All I know about the computer is that it's under the dashboard on the passenger side. I've never pulled the engine or took the body off the frame.

im going with a 3 pump, maybe 10 battery setup, but it's my first setup, so im gonna make a temporary rack, probably for 2 pumps, like 4 batteries.. then, at the end of the summer, ill throw some more shit in....
im just trying to get it off the ground right now, everybody keeps telling me how much it sucks when everybody has juice, and all you have is spokes, so im trying to at least have a little fun this summer..... ill have plenty of spare time for whenever im ready for another pump...

Re: 5.7liter frame to 4.1 body

go with 6 batteries its a whole lot better than 4. i had a 2 pump 4 battery set up when i first got my Cuttie and after i got rid off it it had 3 pumps and 8 batteries. when i had only 4 bats it was cool but after upgrading to 6 (when i still had 2 pumps) it was a whole lot better. who is doing the set up? a shop or you and some friends? where i live there are no shops and my friends and i are about the only ones that now how to do anything. some of my friends are a little more advanced than i am about stuff like that. one of my friends is starting a shop (trying to atleast) sometimes i just ask LOWCOS what he thinks (he knows more about juice than i do). he might be through eventually. well good luck and all.
