I'd be more suspicious of a bad blower resistor module if you're talking about your 83. I had that fail on my 85

It blows fine. But when i turn the air off it blows from the floor. So the compressor is running none stop.

    Re: A/C relay?

You're confusing the compressor with the blower. The compressor only runs when the engine is running. When you shut the engine off, the vacuum that holds the duct doors open goes away. This causes the doors to go to the default position which is the floor.

Your blower resistor module is probably bad. I've had two go bad, but in a way that causes the motor to stop running. It is possible for them to fail in a way that has the blower running all the time.

Possible? Maybe. Not something I ever ran into though.

Me neither, but it does have a big constant hot. I've read here about them failing that way. And they can't post anything on the internet that isn't true.

    Re: A/C relay?

I've personally seen them fail where the blower runs constantly even when the car is shut off.
During the 80's, the blower resistor module also controls the A/C clutch. Which is what I was referring too when I suggested the resistor module might be bad. But it sounds like the problem is with the blower motor, not the A/C compressor, which is even more of a neon sign pointing to the blower resistor module.

The constant hot that has a lot of available current has the blower motor in series with it. Probably find something out pulling the connection to the blower. The rest of the wiring is wimpy.
