Rear seat foot-rests in an 80's/90's Brougham????

I was browsing ebay and came upon this beautiful red 91 Brougham D'Elegance.

Noticed that it had rear seat footrests.

I thought Cadillac did away with this in 1977 or 78. Maybe a dealer installed option??? I know my 91 had every single option you could get on it for the year, but no footrests.

I presumed much earlier these were deleted before 70s .

Pic doesn't work, but I'll guess either a dealer or limo-builder add on.

Those appear to be footrests from a 1977 Fleetwood Brougham. It looks to me that a Cadillac enthusiast had a set of 77 Fleetwood footrests and got some matching carpet and added them to that 90's Brougham - note that the carpet color is a close match but not quite.

The last year for the rear seat footrests was 1977 for the Fleetwood Brougham, and by about the middle of the production year the footrests were deleted and map pockets were added to the front seatbacks.

Footrests in the "downsized" 77+ C-body Cadillacs are not practical, there simply isn't enough foot room for them to give any comfort to the rear seat passengers when the footrests are folded down, and they are in the way when they are folded up. I suspect that is why Cadillac deleted them. Footrests were a very classic and traditional touch for the Fleetwood models practically since the beginning of Cadillac.

100% correct! They were dropped mid 77. These were added. I've seen one or two others that were added by owners over the years. A nice touch, albeit not real useful.

Cool feature I had no idea Cadillac had ever used! That's one of the things I like about all these old Cadillac cars though. Even though I've had mine for 3-4 years now I still occasionally learn things I didn't know the car did.
