Replacement power antenna for '86 FWB

The mechanic on my Fleetwood Brougham told me he can fix my broken power antenna by accessing the assembly through the right front wheel well. Didn't sound like he would have to remove a fender, that would be pretty drastic for a stupid antenna.

autopartsusa had a brand new AC Delco replacement power antenna for my car so I ordered it today, figuring trying to get mine rebuilt would take too much time. I'm expecting the Delco part will look just like the original. It certainly wasn't cheap.

If there's any issue with it I will contact someone about having the one in my car rebuilt. Should be in great shape like the rest of the car. I bought it from an older gentleman who babied it, only 40,000 miles on car.

The escutcheon (the base that sits on top of the fender with a hole for the antenna to pass through) is NLA and I could not order that. Mine is a perfect original part but it doesn't want to snap back into the fender hole. I wonder if a clip or snap is broken on it. Are these available new in the same style as the original part? Anybody know?

My mechanic said he might be able to use silicone glue to hold it in place.

Anyone gone through fixing a power antenna and tried to keep things original looking? Am I on the right track with these parts and ideas?

I haven't done it myself, but it sounds like you're on the right track. The replacements I've seen are truly not cheap.
For the escutcheon, I would try the glue first. If that doesn't work, I'd hit up the salvage yards.

You don't remove the escutcheon to replace the antenna. The mast passes right through it. You do not need to remove outer or inner fender, only a small access panel to change the antenna. There is a complete how to, with pics and bolt sizes and locations in my coupe project thread.
