Both rear windows suddenly stopped working - also power seat question

1993 Fleetwood Brougham - Well all of a sudden, both of my rear door windows would not roll down. The front ones work fine. I thought maybe a fuse blew, but when I have the car running, lights on, etc and I press the back windows to go down, the lights will dim (and engine will slow down a little) as if the switches are making power. I thought then it was maybe the child lock causing it, but I dont think that the front master switch matters if it is on child lockout or not? Either way, I tried it even with it turned off and they still will not go down, even if I use the switch on the back doors. Not sure what happened? I cant imagine that both rear windows locked up at the same time? That would be a strange coincidence.

Also, my power driver seat (the lower part of the seat) and the seat heater does not work on the driverside. The lumbar works, the top part of the back seat, but its like the switches for the lower part of seat are dead and the heater does not work... passenger seat works fine, as does the seat heater. I dont have an owners manual for this car... so wondering, are they on seperate fuses?

    Thanks!

Do the windows work from their own switches on their doors?

Humor me! Open a rear door, hold the switch in the down postion, then hit the lower carpeted panel on the inside door trim with your fist. Does it suddendly now work? If so, the regulator bound up. And if fixed, send me a case of Bud!!

EDIT: Or SLAM the door with the switch held down. It is strange though that the both doors started acting up at the same time.

Re: Both rear windows suddenly stopped working - also power seat question

My mom's 95 Seville does the same thing occasionally. She is not strong enough to do it, but I just whack the door glass on the inside, and then the window will go down. I replaced the track/motor assembly years ago with a junk yard part when hers broke, and I just can't seem to get it adjusted perfectly. So, the occasional whack fixes the problem. Don't hurt your fist!!

On my 84 Eldo This would work. So I adjusted the down stop below the regulator inside the door up a little bit. By not allowing the glass to go fully down, it seemed to keep the regulator from further binding.

Hooray! Well to those that suggested I shut the door while holding the switch - that worked!! Both rear windows are working now. The rear driver window started working right away and worked everytime! The rear passenger door took a few slammings with the switch held before it would work, but it did as well and working fine. What causes this? Lack of use? Will it likely do it again soon? I am not sure how long it will be until they start again, but anyway, they are working for now. lol. So strange though that both windows did this at the same time. I had them both down only about 2 weeks before I realized they were not working.

    Thanks again!

Experience is priceless, for the rest you can use Mastercard. Do not forget to send a case of Bud to Allante Tech. I have a rule - I never lower the windows more than an inch, unless it is absolutely necessary.

With the windows up, pop the rear door switches off and unplug them!

Re: Both rear windows suddenly stopped working - also power seat question

On my last post, I said the down stop was raised a bit to keep the window from coming to a fully lowered position. The regulator binds from the torque of the window motor. Where's the BUD???
