Yup....you can also use any RWD caddy frame from 1977-96.

Yes, but there are minor differences for motor and trans mounts, braces, as well as for the later LT1 low AC compressor mounts.

True, but the mounts will swap across.

    Re: Frame interchangeability question??

Correct, all 80-85 2/4 door frames are the same. All frames from 77-96 are interchangeable with no mods. 86 and up will probably have motor mounts in a different location but you can unbolt them and move them to the right spot on most. But, to stay away from motor mount issues(cause they can be a pain), just stick with a frame from 77-85.

The 86 and up frames still have the mount locations and proper mounting holes for the caddy engine mounts.

I would bet the up to 89 did but my 90 didnt have any extra holes. That was a pain that ended with my motor sitting a tiny bit crooked.

I've read that the 80's frames were slightly heavier duty than the later 90's frames......true???

I've never heard that. The 90-92 5.7L frames have reinforcements added to them that I'm guessing the 93-96s also had but don't know.

I've took apart a half dozen 80-92 caddys and they are the same that I can tell.

    Re: Frame interchangeability question??

after reading all this info., can I swap a 94-96 LT1 Fleetwood frame and use my 83 2 door Brougham body. If yes can I also use a
    94-96 LT1 roadmaster/caprice/impala ss as well. I was thinking of doing a 90-92 4 door brougham chassis/drivetrain swap and using my 83 2 door
body. This is what members from layitlow.com do for conversions. I honestly love the LT1 drivetrain better. Why? I have a 96 Impala SS and love the performance. Can I use an LT1 chassis/drivetrain and use my 83 2 door brougham body?

You will need a 94-96 fleetwood frame if you want the LT1. caprices/ impalas/roadmasters/wagon frames will not work (too short) but you could swap the engine/ trans and everything else you need onto your car.
