    Padded my seat back

Total cost so far for the seat repadding: $38 (would have been about $10 cheaper if I hadn't bought the thicker seat padding from the craft store which I ended up not using)

    Seat back is recovered.

Fan shroud bolted in. Still need to zip screw the top and bottom together

    Engine bay braces in

    Also found this....WTF?
(I know it's the return line to the gas tank, but is it ok to have it plugged?)

    WTF!!!

First time I saw this thread. A whole lot of awesome!

Thanks for the inspiration/motivation to reconsider some much less modest modifications, that I have been told were implausible, "not worth it" on "that" car, impractical or just bonkers.

are you gonna swap out the "GM" seat belt buckles for Cadillac crested ones?

Went junkyarding and brought back a clean right fender. Going back monday afternoon for the hood and the left fender. They're also gray, just like the doors.

Just a tiny bit of rust from rub through from the rocker chrome.

I have been thinking of buying the front end off of the 1987 Brougham I found in a junkyard here. I suppose I could make a couch out of it if I never use it. Any idea what I should be paying for all that?

I paid $40 for the fender with everything attached (I got the inner fender, wheel well liner and all associated plastic cover thingies, and a DOA power antenna). They charge 50 for a hood, 50 for the bumper, and maybe 50 for the header. Lights, grille, etc....maybe another 50. This is MO prices though. We're cheap.

Well that gives me some idea of what to expect. The local pick and pull sounds about the same prices---give or take $5-10.

Went back for the hood (which I had set aside out of the way). Someone was nice enough to knock it over and jump on it. WTF is wrong with people?
Also went to get the fender, but it had a cluster of penpoint sized paint chips and couldn't get the door open wide enough anyways to get the bottom 17mm bolt.

I am guessing you didn't get any parts then. Jumping on the hood messed up a decent part! The dumbasses!

I got a 5.7 fuel injection air cleaner lid that needs repainting and a custom wood console for a friends suburban. He liked my console so much, he asked me to pick one up and refinish it for him. There was another caddy with a straight hood there (the one I got the air cleaner lid from), but it sat next to a chemical plant and was covered in ferrous oxide dust (the engine bay was flat out orange, as was the interior! It also had some weird rust from the ferrous oxide powder). I'll post up pics later.

Ferrous oxide? Geez, I hope you don't live too close to that plant. Aren't those hoods aluminum? I think you could get more than $40 for it scrap if it is.
