I have had it up to 90 MPH several times. What can I look at for top end? I have also been told that if I drill a hole in the cat. converter I will get a little better performance. Is this right? If yes how big of a hole and where?
Which motor do you have?
Top speed on an olds 307 is 120+ (but you'll have to find many many miles of flat straight ground for it to go that fast)
Personally (and I don't recommend this because these cars have 0 handling at triple digit speeds) I have done 110-115 in my caddy (once)
Top speed on a 350 is 130+, if the computer doesnt shut off your fuel supply first (105 or 110 IIRC). Truck computers will also go faster and make more power than a performance car (iroc camaro/ TA) computer. (Bump timing over 3k instead of retarding it and no fuel cutoff IIRC)
You aren't going to get much of a boost by drilling a hole in your cat (I assume you mean gutting it, which is illegal in some states). Removing your cat and installing a straight pipe might net you 2 hp...maybe....they aren't as restrictive as they were back in '74 when they came out. If you want to get more performance, try legitimate performance mods (CAI intake, headers/ dual exhaust, adjusting the carb/ bigger injectors on tbi etc.)

They do start going bad and gradually get worse. It isn't like a switch that goes from perfect to plugged. That is why I said "failing and getting plugged." Whatever, it was merely an observation....never mind.
Yes they do...I could watch the gas gauge go down very quickly when I went on the top speed run in my fwb (3 or so minute romp cost me 3 mpg over a full tank). It took forever to get over 100 once it got to 80 (0-100 is counted in minutes, not seconds.) Then theres the problem of the body sway shoving the car around even in sweeping curves.
