Get me to the church on time!
Lovers of “real” Cadillac huge, rear–wheel drive V8′s continued to enjoy this behemoth. Cadillac boasted that the DeVille and Brougham’s 221 inch overall length made it the largest car produced in North America at the time.

No wonder Cadillac of today isn't "The Standard of the World" as they claim!! Although the 4100 was a giant failure, you could walk into a dealership and have your new car configured in many different ways, as opposed to the "cookie cutters" that are being sold today. I understand we DO have more technology now than 30 years go, but 30 years ago Cadillac had more technology than everyone else. That same statement can not be made for the Cadillacs of today. We can only hope that one day Cadillac will build a car that gets people excited about the product, like they once did.

I agree. Aside from all burgundy w leather, firemist blue w/ velour int, all gray, and white body/ burgundy roof and int (and all gold/ tan for the 90-92s), all other caddies were pretty unique (and even the "common" colors aren't super easy to find). I've only seen one other FWB like mine (tan with the brown roof). There is one locally, but its got velour interior and a 4100.

From the time I bought my 82 used in 1986, until I sold it in 1989, it was still a car that commanded attention. From people staring as you drove by, to people commenting on it when parking. People would treat you entirely different if driving that, compared to driving my other cars. Comments like, "Oh, A Cadillac!" or "They must be paying you too much!" were very common. Even in the late eighties, as an old used car, it still meant something to drive a Cadillac. They were more than just a car.

I will now yield the !

It sure wasn't a "middle of the week" car.

I've always wondered...are the panels painted before they're put on the car or afterwards? If they're painted then installed, I would guess they either switched paint batches or someone grabbed the wrong fender off the rack. If they're painted on the car, I have no idea how that could happen, unless the paint was not mixed throroughly. Either way, I can't understand A. Why was it in a cadillac promotional video? B. Why was it allowed to leave the factory like that?

Reminds me of a popular mechanics town car vs fwb d'elegance test. The big complaint against the caddy was shoddy build quality- mainly the fact that you could see through the metallic blue paint on a brand new car.

American car build quality wasn't exactly top flight in the 70s and 80s. For as careless as that Caddy is, just imagine the contemporary Chevy! Grab an 82 Mopar, and the Caddy looks like a handcrafted masterwork!

I would love to compare an 80s mopar, but there aren't any on the road or in the yards here. Guess that says something...lol
As for a contemporary chevy, I recall dads 77 impala wagon being pretty nice for a bare bones car. All the paint matched at least. lol. Interior was pretty nice IIRC, but an all black interior tends to hide panel gaps. I do recall his 77 poncho wagon was far more shoddy as far as panel gaps and interior panel fitment though.
