With four good snow tires (I have Hankook iPikes), they are great in the snow. 94s have an additional feature of being able to start in 2nd gear if you come to a complete stop and pull the lever down to "2". This really limits wheelspin.

Wait, don't they always start in second gear? I feel a HUGE difference between just selecting "OD" and driving compared to selecting manual 1st.

    Hmmm....

No. If you put it in OD, it stars in 1.

Re: Thinking of buying a 93-96 Roadmaster wagon for daily driver

One last question, I think. I have seen a few of the wagons on line looking rusty. Do they have specific spots that a newbe like me should be aware of when looking at one? I am asking if there are any hidden areas that might not be obvious until it is too late (like paid for and sitting in my driveway). Thanks again to everyone for all of the opinions and and advice.

Look at the bottom of the B pillars, the D pillars (by the rear hatch glass), and both lower rear quarter panels.

Also any rust holes on the roof = run away. Far away.

The main rusty area are the front core support and the rear quarter panels behind the rear wheels. The quarter panels rust out behind the rear wheels, which is often hidden by stick on chromed steel panels.

Check the floor under the driver's heel. Left 1/4 panel holds water in the bottom if the drain isn't open. D pillars rust on cars that have leaky roof racks.

Buy something nice out of Florida. Like this:

As a bonus, if you find something in FL, PM me the link and if it's close, I will happily inspect it and test drive it for you.

Just let me know. I can take video, photos, whatever you need. I'm all about getting more people into wagons.

Even my MOM drives one now.

Update- I bought a wagon from Fred tonight!! White 96 Roadmaster wood delete, tan leather, 76,000 miles. It was ebay if anyone saw it. I am having it shipped to my house in Pittsburgh soon. It has minor dings and dents, zero rust, clean interior. My wife changed her mind about selling her Mountaineer, and Fred had what I was looking for ( wood delete, leather, light color) available immediately.
